The Structure of Soka Gakkai Headquarters Which Hid the Corruption with the Excuse “Do not Bother Ikeda Sensei”

“I have carried on practicing what my mentor said with my whole being as it was. “The relationship between the mentor and the disciples was embodied by such an attitude, “to put what my mentor said into practice as it was.”
(The guidance of Ikeda sensei)

Once you decided to live the life of “the relationship between the mentor and disciples”, put into practice what Ikeda sensei said as it was!

Stand up sternly on your own as Ikeda sensei said even if the hypocrite, who cheat himself with excuses and lies, sneers and ridicules you!

My comrades! However heavy walls confronts us, pave the way for the future of Soka Gakkai by raising your voice “nothing stronger than the relationship between the mentor and disciples” “The relationship between the mentor and the disciples is embodied by the lion.”

The Struggle of Kodaira in Kyushu
On April 1 2010, Kodaira was transferred to the office of Kyushu Cultural Center in Kyushu, where Kodaira had no connection. Kodaira had no friends and relatives there. In the first daily meeting conducted in the morning, Kodaira was given time to introduce himself. Kodaira said “I will give my all to work for Soka Gakkai members.” Then, Kodaira made a resolve not to be beaten no matter what difficulties would confront him. After that, Kodaira met with the top leader of the Kyushu male youth division the first time. Kodaira conveyed his determination to him, saying “I will fight with my whole being in Kyushu.” Then, Kodaira informed him that all his positions in the male youth division were removed. The top leader said “I heard everything about you.” Kodaira did not know what and how the leader was told about Kodaira. However, Kodaira thought Kodaira would like the leader to know the process accurately. Kodaira said “Could you possibly talk and listen to me once, sir?” The leader responded “The important thing is your life and work. It must take time but be the person who are trustworthy.” Kodaira could not make an appointment to have a dialogue with the leader. Additionally, the leaders in a district where Kodaira belonged in Kyushu told Kodaira “I heard from a chapter leader in Kyushu about you.” “Join only zadankai (monthly district meetings) and satellite general meetings.” “Work hard.” What they said implied that Kodaira were not allowed to join the male youth division’s activities. It was nothing different from suspension. Although it was the first time for Kodaira to meet them, Kodaira had not been given any chances to talk and listen to Kodaira. To make matters worse, they prejudged Kodaira.

“Do not judge a thing (a person )without acknowledging it”
(The guidance of Makiguchi sensei)

Kodaira felt that Soka Gakkai Kyushu had the same bad structure as the headquarters had: “judge a thing (a person) without acknowledging it” In his daily work, Kodaira started learning a new job. Kodaira’s task was to purchase equipments in the cultural center, and manage the inventory. Kodaira did not know the names of places and roads in Kyushu, but Kodaira drove around in his car among 20 cultural centers. When working time was over, Kodaira’s colleagues headed for their organizations’ activities. However, Kodaira was not allowed to join. Kodaira felt extremely painful about the fact that Kodaira could not do anything for his organization though he was Soka Gakkai staff (employee). Kodaira, whose positions had been removed, worked over 22:00 every working day, and went back home. Recalling the members and the comrades in his hometown, Kodaira chanted daimoku until the midnights.
Nevertheless, the innocent members just pondered over and over on one thing “what and how Ikeda sensei would do in this situation”, and they could not agree with the manipulated conclusion, which would end up in hiding the corruption of Soka Gakkai staff, and labeling them as rebellions. To make matters worse, the members were treated unfairly, and they were not informed of the schedules of meetings because of this. In spite of the harsh situation, the members chanted daimoku earnestly and had been struggling desperately with the prejudice and misunderstanding with the determination to act as Ikeda sensei said. They did shakubuku (the propagation of the mystic law.) Kodaira said to himself “I want to prove the innocence of the genuine members. If I fail to do it, there will be no meaning for me to be staff of Soka Gakkai any longer. I have to report this matter to Ikeda sensei, and prove the justice of the members as soon as possible.” Just before moving to Kyushu, Kodaira met with Ms. Saitama whose mother was close to Ikeda sensei. Then, Kodaira asked Ms. Saitama that Kodaira would like to let Mrs. Yamanashi listen to the recorded tape of the threatening inquiry, and to consult her about the inquiry, about the conclusion of the Audit Committee hiding the injustice of Senior Soka gakkai staff, and about the top leaders who avoided reporting the problem to Ikeda sensei. Ms. Saitama told Kodaira “Yes, I will. Whatever her response is, I will let you know about the result.” Kodaira had been waiting for her call. However, there was no response from her.
One month had passed. In May 5 2010, Kodaira decided to write to her about his honest feelings:”I think Ikeda sensei has been watching and waiting for a true disciple to raise his/her voice in order to champion every single Soka Gakkai member. I am sure that mustering up courage, raising a voice, and reporting Ikeda sensei about the fact as it is, will definitely please Ikeda sensei.” Kodaira knew that writing a letter and asking Ms. Saitama about the issue not directly related to her was bothering her very much. It was not the problem easy to be solved. Kodaira felt very sorry to ask her to leave message to Mrs. Yamanashi. Soka Gakkai used to be the sacred place established by Ikeda sensei and unknown ordinary members. Nevertheless, Kodaira saw and knew the reality of the current Soka Gakkai, where Soka Gakkai staff made its ordinary members suffer, and shelved the fact, without reporting it to Ikeda sensei. Kodaira was determined again to let Ikeda sensei know about the truth.
Kodaira said to himself “We need painstaking and lifelong efforts to establish, but we could lose it with a blinking eye. If this situation goes on, the Soka Gakkai embodied by the relationships between the mentor and disciples will be destroyed.
If I am able to let Ikeda sensei know about this problem, I will endure any ill-treatment against me.” Kodaira thought to himself “Looking at me seriously, Ms. Saitama said “Whatever her response is, I will let you know about the result.” I do not think she will not tell her mother about it at all. I have no choice but to believe she will give me response.”

Another month had passed. Still, there was no response from her. These days, Ikeda sensei made a following comment and had absence from the general meeting, “You can find true victory when you take actions in unison with the spirits of “not sparing your life. Then, today I will take an absence from the general meeting.” I thought Ikeda sensei took absence from the meeting on purpose and was taking a lead sternly for each disciple to take all the responsibility of the struggle of Kosenrufu and won victory in their lives. Then, he had been waiting for disciples who are be able to stand up by themselves under any circumstances. “Keep struggling for what I believe is right as Ikeda sensei taught us. I will not compromise to the current situation and gave up. I will never give up!” Kodaira said to himself.

Consultation to Vice-President Tottori, who Is Close to Ikeda Sensei
On August 2010, four months had passed since Kodaira was transferred to Kyushu. Still, there was no response from Ms. Saitama, and only time passed by and our hope to report via Mrs. Yamanashi to Ikeda sensei was still unfulfilled. In the headquarters in Tokyo, where Noguchi were solely left, however, no matter how many times he had tried to ask for the dialogue with President Harada, but President Harada kicked out him, and even did not receive letters. In the case of Takigawa, to make matters worse, President Harada just shouted “Go back to your work!” many times, and held him in a full nelson, and booted him out from the office. “Is there anybody who would tell to Ikeda sensei what is going on inside the Soka Gakkai headquarters?” The four, Kodaira, Takigawa, Noguchi, and Ibaraki prayed, pondered, and had inner struggle. Then, discussing with each other, they thought of the Vice-president Tottori, who was trustworthy and worked in the First Secretary Department. Vice-president Tottori was a very busy person who always worked at Ikeda sensei’s side. In spite of the busy schedule, he talked to students and young Soka Gakkai staff, and had meals with them, listening to their story empathetically when finding his spare time. He was regarded as a great senior staff. There were many people who respect him, and it was said that he was one of the most important person for the future of Soka Gakkai, and the staff in Soka Gakkai headquarters also acknowledged his greatness. Noguchi, who used to be engaged in manual labor, were often encouraged by him since Noguchi began to work for Soka Gakkai. One day, when he had a meal with Noguchi, he knew that Noguchi’s mother was under the weather, and made an arrangement to give him an amulet. Noguchi really appreciated, felt close to him, and put trust on him. Noguchi thought vice-president Tottori would see through the root of the problem without bias, and he would understand our concerns about the problem which we had experienced. We wrote letters to vice-president Tottori, saying “We felt that what the disciplinary committee want to protect with the written pledge was not a single Soka Gakkai member but Soka Gakkai staff(employee), who covered up scandals. Signing the written pledge means we would give blind eyes on the corruptions of the staff, and gave an end to our mission as Soka Gakkai staff. We added “We do not think we are right in every way. However, we have tried to think “what Ikeda sensei would do in this situation”, pray earnestly, and take actions.” “Could you possibly listen to our story? We are determined to fight for Soka Gakkai.”
On August 11 2010, before the starting time of work, Noguchi attended the morning Gongyo meeting held on the fifth floor, and talked to vice-president Tottori. “I guess you have heard that my positions in Soka Gakkai were removed. Now, I work and fight as a single member. Still, the members, who raised their voice against the scandals and corruptions of Soka Gakkai senior staff, have been ignored, and it was as if bullying. I can not be a bystander. Could you possibly listen to me? Then, vice-president Tottori looked away and said “Next time. I had to prepare for today's job.” After that, he was about to leave the place. I knew he was very busy, and it was difficult to talk at the place. So, Noguchi hold out the letters to vice-president Tottori, and said “I knew you are very busy. Could you possibly receive this letter , sir? We wrote down our honest feelings why we would like you to listen to our story”. Then, he raised his voice, and told Noguchi, changing his attitude in a sudden “I cannot receive this letter. The way you do is not fair. You are breaking the unity of members!” Noguchi could not imagine that vice-president Tottori, who were kind and gentle, behaved in such a way. Vice-president Tottori had no intention to listen to our story about the problems that the disciplinary committee dealt with. Noguchi could not understand why he criticized and called Noguchi “the person who are breaking the unity of members.” Noguchi’s mind went blank. Noguchi asked to vice-president Tottori desperately “Please tell me why do you think it is not fair. I would like to know what action of mine is breaking the unity of members, so could you possibly listen to my story?” Nevertheless, vice-president Tottori responded as following. “No way! You are breaking the unity of members! You are against Ikeda sensei!” He said repeatedly. “You are against Ikeda sensei.” Ikeda sensei is the core of Noguchi’s faith. So, Noguchi could not put up with the words even by vice-president Tottori. Noguchi said desperately “What do you mean by “you are breaking the unity of members?” “I just would like you listen to my story about the misunderstanding of the disciplinary committee on the inquiry.” vice-president Tottori said “they did not misunderstand! You are breaking the unity of members! I feel really disappointed that you have been doing such things!” Then, he was about to go down the steps. Noguchi thought to himself “I cannot end like this!” Steeping down, Noguchi called out desperately “Vice-president Tottori, please read our letter! Please! Please receive this letter, sir!” However, arriving on the second floor, vice-president Tottori just said “I cannot. That’s it!” Then, he headed to the First Secretary Department office room. It was not the situation where Noguchi can talk to him any more. Grasping the letter tightly, and vowing to vice-president Tottori, Noguchi called out “Mr. Tottori, please next time, sir!” Noguchi thought “I don’t care how much I could be criticized. However, I think they should tell me the reasons why “I am breaking the unity of members.” and “I am against Ikeda sensei.” “I have to accept the criticism and reflect on myself if their criticism is accurate and gets to points.”However, if their criticism is wrong, I would like them to have dialogue and see us in a different light. The problem is I cannot have dialogue with them. In recent Soka Gakkai headquarters, the staff can hardly have open conversation. When I say “I cannot understand. Could you possibly explain?”, we will be told “You don’t follow our instructions” I think such a way of thinking of the staff made the headquarters more rigid organizations.”
On that day, hearing the exchange between Noguchi and vice-president Tottori, Ibaraki and Takigawa felt there is something wrong with vice-president Tottori, who had criticized Noguchi without listening to Noguchi’s story, saying “You are breaking the unity of members.” “You are against Ikeda sensei.” Again, we cannot help feeling that the staff of Soka Gakkai had a tendency to judge without acknowledging (without listening at all) Ibaraki and Takigawa thought they had to talk to vice-president Tottori, who told Noguchi without listening “You are breaking the unity of members.” “The way you do is not fair.” They thought they had to listen to him to confirm the truth.
On August 20 2010, before the starting time of work, Ibaraki and Takigawa grasped letters, and headed to Kousen-Kaikan (a room for chanting)on the fifth floor. After the morning gongyo meeting, they talked to vice-president Tottori, who were about to walk away. However, vice-president Tottori turned his face away, and told them “I won’t listen to your story.” “Go to see President Harada! That is the problem of the top leaders.” Then, he started going down the steps. Ibaraki said “Do you think the problem of the top leaders is yours, too?” Then, vice-president Tottori said “It’s not mine!” “Anyway, there is nothing to deal with me!” After that, he dashed down the steps. Ibaraki told him “Vice-president Tottori, could you possibly receive this lettter, sir?” Vice-president Tottori answered “No, I won’t.” He got more excited, and said in a angry face which had never shown to us, “You are disturbing, and breaking the unity of Soka Gakkai!” To the vice-president Tottori, who had never listened, Ibaraki asked “Why could you say such a thing without listening to our story?” Vice-president Tottori said “I did! I have heard from others!” Ibaraki said “I think you have not listened to our story directly from us at all.” Vice-president Tottori answered “I don’t have to. I won’t!” Ibaraki asked again “Why can you regard us as the persons who are disturbing and breaking the unity of Soka Gakkai? Vice-president Tottori stopped walking when getting on the next floor, and turned around, and after a moment of silence, he pointed at Takigawa in a sudden and said without answering to the question of Ibaraki, “I trusted you, Takigawa! I had high expectation on you since you were in the student division.” He criticized Takigawa. Takigawa would like to solve his misunderstanding. Then, Takigawa said “Vice-president Tottori, please, sir. Please listen to our story once!” Vice-president Tottori responded “I won’t! Get out of here! Stay away from me!” Then, he went into the room of the First Secretary Department. Takigawa could not help feeling that he just do not want to have connection with us, strongly.

Kodaira’s Visit to Vice-President Tottori
Kodaira heard from Noguchi, Takigawa, and Ibaraki that vice-president Tottori had refused to listen to our story, receive our letter, and even slandered us, saying “You are breaking the unity of Soka Gakkai.” “You are against Ikeda sensei.” However, Kodaira found impossible to believe that vice-president Tottori refused to listen to their story. Kodaira thought he had to confirm the fact in person by himself. Kodaira belonged to a Soka Gakkai group, which is called “Ikeda Gakkou(Ikeda School)”, and Kodaira got to know vice-president Tottori. He always encouraged Kodaira when he saw Kodaira, and before Kodaira had gone to study abroad for a short term, he gave money to Kodaira to support, personally as a token of his best wish.
After Kodaira became staff of Soka Gakkai, Kodaira’s father got sick. Then, Kodaira went to the Soka Gakkai headquarters with his mother and sister to tell Ikeda sensei about it. Then, vice-president Tottori treated them nicely and kindly as the staff of the First Secretary Department. Even though he was very busy, he took them to Kosen-Kaikan(a room which opens for members to chant daimoku), and chanted daimoku together and made an arrangement to give them an amulet for their sick father. Kodaira had had such a relationship with vice-president Tottori for over 10 years. So, Kodaira thought he would tell Kodaira what he actually had meant by talking to Noguchi in such a manner.
“If vice-president Tottori thought we had things to reflect on and to change, I hope that he will tell us what they are. If he mistakes us, I want to clear up his misunderstanding whatever it takes. And, above all, I would like him to give us a chance to consult him about the innocent members who has been suffering from the scandals and the corruption of the senior Soka Gakkai staff.

On the Saturday of August 28, 2010, Kodaira came back to Tokyo, and went to “Jyoshu-shitsu”( a open room for chanting) on the basement floor in the Soka Gakkai headquarters in order to make an appointment to talk with vice-president Tottori. After a while, vice-president Tottori showed up in the room. Kodaira chanted daimoku together in a distance in the room with vice-president Tottori, and when he was leaving, Kodaira talked to his back, and bowed to him outside the room.
Kodaira said “It’s been a while, vice-president Tottori, sir. I came back from Kyushu because I have an really important thing to consult you. Could you possibly make time to listen to my story, sir?” However, vice-president Tottori pointed at Kodaira and started to talk as if he had made his mind.
“I won’t talk and listen to your story. I have already heard from many people. You had better obey the conclusion which the headquarters made. I’m just saying you should obey the conclusion!”
At the moment, Kodaira lost his words since he was just saying repeatedly “Obey the conclusion” without listening at all. Kodaira told him desperately “I do not think so. Please listen to me, sir! I can swear to Ikeda sensei that I didn’t do wrong things!” Then, vice-president Tottori said “Yeah. You are the disciple of Ikeda sensei, and you are the staff of Soka Gakkai headquarter, right? Then, follow the guidance of the headquarters! Why have not you obeyed the conclusion? It’s not the act of the disciple of Ikeda sensei! You are the staff of Soka Gakkai headquarters, aren’t you!”
Kodaira thought it is totally opposite. Ikeda sensei told us, it is important that if you are a disciple of Ikeda sensei, we have to raise our voice when the headquarters made a wrong judgement even if we are alone. If the top leaders of the headquarters do not listen to the voice of members at all, use Ikeda sensei to their advantages, and subordinate members, the headquarters will turn out to become corrupt and a rigid organization.
Kodaira asked him desperately “I am doing like this because I am a disciple of Ikeda sensei and staff of Soka Gakkai headquarters. Ikeda sensei tells us that we, Soka Gakkai staff (employees) exist for its members.” Vice-president Tottori responded “That’s wrong! The right thing is to obey the conclusion of the headquarters if you are the disciple of Ikeda sensei!” Kodaira said “I don’t think so. I think Ikeda sensei will tell us that we have to raise our voice even against the headquarters when it have made a wrong judgement.” “Don’t bother and worry Ikeda sensei as his disciple!” said Vice-president Tottori. It’s needless to say!” Why you can’t understand that!” Hearing that, Kodaira felt that it has not been informed to Ikeda sensei that some Soka Gakkai members had been treated unfairly after they pointed out the corruption and injustice of senior Soka Gakkai staff. Kodaira asked to vice-president Tottori, candidly “Don’t Ikeda sensei know about this matter?” Then, vice-president Tottori answered instantly “Of course, not! It is insane of you to report such a thing to Ikeda sensei! I did not think you would become insane like this! You are against Ikeda sensei!” Plus, vice-president Tottori said “You betrayed me! Go to see President Harada! It has nothing to deal with me!” “ I won’t hear you! Go to talk to President as many times as you could!” Then, he started to go up the steps leading to the room for the First Secretary Department. “Here is the place for the First Secretary Department. Keep away from here! Get out of here!” Shouting in an angry tone, vice-president Tottori walked away to the floor of the First Secretary Department.
As we thought, no ones had reported to Ikeda sensei about the matter, and Ikeda sensei did not know about it at all. On June 26 2002, in the meeting for the whole staff, Ikeda sensei told us “For the coming next 100 years, report to me if you find corrupt staff or ones who caused scandals.” “Write a letter to me, a letter without lying. But, If I find it something false, I won’t trust you.” Vice-president Tottori certainly knew the guidance of the Ikeda sensei. Despite the guidance, vice-president Tottori had not reported to the Ikeda sensei the problem and corruptions which the leaders of Soka Gakkai youth had caused. “Such a man truly deserves the secretary of Ikeda sensei?”, Kodaira wondered

“Leaders definitely should not cover up the problem which someone has reported. Such organizational structure is the most dangerous.”
(The guidance of Ikeda sensei)

Naturally, the guidance is applicable to the First Secretary Division, which role is to bridge between Ikeda sensei and members. If vice-president Tottori, the leader of the department, received a letter about the corruption and injustice of Soka Gakkai staff, it is natural for him to report it to Ikeda sensei. However, he evens did not accept the report. What Ikeda sensei is most concerned about is that Soka gakkai fall into the organizational structure that staff covers up scandals and corruption. The top leaders of the headquarters and their close aids have not reported the corruption of Soka Gakkai staff which the Disciplinary Committee hid. Also, they have not reported the fact that the innocent members have been treated unfairly. We do not think Ikeda sensei tell us the act of the top leaders and their aids is right. Rather, Ikeda sensei will become furious if he knows about it.
Every top leader said “You should not bother and worry Ikeda sensei.” They said so as if they were concerned about Ikeda sensei. The fact is that they were just covering up the problem for which they took responsibility! Kodaira thought “I have seen what Soka Gakkai is like so far. I have to report it to Ikeda sensei even though I am in Kyushu now. Then, I have to resolve the problem of Soka Gakkai. I will pave the way for dialogue! Otherwise, how can I call me a disciple of Ikeda sensei?”

Kodaira’s Visit to President Harada
After vice-president Tottori told Kodaira “This is the problem of the executives.” “Go to see President Harada as many times as you could!”, Kodaira wondered if he should go to see President Harada, while he was chanting earnestly. President Harada had refused to listen to our story when Noguchi and Takigawa went to see President Harada to ask him for dialogue. Even worse, he shouted them and refused to receive the letters, saying “Reflect on yourself!” “Bring your written apology!” Kodaira thought “If I went to see President Harada, he would refuse to talk and communicate with me.” “However, even though there were few possibilities to meet and talk, I mastered up courage and have made contacts with people who we thought we should meet. I have done this with the belief that Soka Gakkai will make an advance as much as I gather courage and take an action. I have carried on even when I failed once, twice, and even three times.” Kodaira thought to himself.

“Makiguchi sensei told us “Those who are in lower positions should make influence and change people who are in upper positions.” You should say your opinions to leaders more, and if you find something wrong with them, you should point it out. Of course, you should not do this because of your temporary feeling or out of your selfishness. The organization where people share constructive ideas and opinions will develop. If the leaders refuse to listen or have not changed, you should tell them twice or three times. It’s neither “fight” nor “rebel against the leaders.”
(The guidance of Ikeda sensei)

Kodaira said to himself “If I was able to talk with President Harada once, I could resolve President Harada’s misunderstanding. Then, I could tell him about the weak points of Soka Gakkai to improve and about the corruption of Soka Gakkai staff, which will be the first step to solve the roots of the problem of Soka Gakkai. Not doing what we can do is the act of “against Ikeda sensei.” Vice Prtesident Tottori said “Go to see President Harada as many times as you could!” What he said was the implication of the Mystic Law, pointing me in a right direction. What I need is the courage! Even if I was refused, slandered, I should endure and take actions which I believe is right, twice or even three times. The strongest enemy is my weakness to incline to give up.I want to make an appointment with President Harada no matter what it takes.”
Kodaira headed for the Fukuoka airport to visit President Harada in the headquarters in Tokyo.

No.7 The Way of the Response of President Harada, “He Has Never Talked and Listened” and the Reality of the Current Soka Gakkai(July 2008-July 2010)

Life is struggle with given limited time. Without fulfilling our mission, we could not find value in our lives. Without carrying through faith, no matter how much you justify yourself, only left in the end are emptiness and regret.
(The Guidance of Ikeda sensei)

There is nothing more certain and unavoidable than death. Then, you should accumulate “the treasure of heart” which you can carry through for three generations. However, the most people procrastinate doing the most important thing in life.
(The Guidance of Ikeda sensei)

Our life span is limited.
No one can avoid death.
It completely depends on us,
whether you live the lives of fulfilling your mission
or you give up doing it and in the end have the feelings of emptiness and regret.

Death reveals everything equally, and clarifies right and wrong.
Also, death gives light to a life, and reflects courage and cowardliness.
Just before the death, we can evade and make excuses to others, but we cannot excuse yourself. Even if you can, you cannot evade from the results of the Myth Law, which is the universal law.
Then, you!
Living a life is struggle whether or not you can carry through your determination which you made once. It is a ceaseless struggle within your inner self.

On May 5 2010, Kodaira, Takigawa, and Ibaraki were transferred to local areas, and Noguchi, left in the Soka Gakkai headquarters alone, made a resolve to talk to President Harada and to ask him for the re-inquiry. He had written three letters to President Harada so far since the next day of the inquiry by the Audit Committee on April 2008. However, he had never listened to Noguchi.

The response of President Harada So Far

The first time Noguchi had written to President Harada was July 2 2008, one month after the Audit Committee made a judgement. In the inquiry, the committee threatened that they would exclude us from Soka Gakkai if we have not signed the written pledge, and pressed us to submit the written pledge, hiding the scandals and the problems of Soka Gakkai staff and making innocent members scapegoats. In our working place, our boss threatened and told us “If you do not bring your written pledge, bring the resignation instead!” Also, Fukui, the top leader in the prefecture, where we used to belong, told us unfair things repeatedly as following: “The Audit Committee is the place like this. When you sign the written pledge, you will be free.”
However, we could not give up. What we just wanted was that President Harada listened to us once, and he gave us an opportunity of a re-inquiry. We had written our honest feelings in a letter, and submitted it to President Harada via Mr. Fukui. Just two days after that, however, it was the Audit Committee that gave us the response from President Harada. It said “We (the headquarters) judged that we did not need to conduct a re-inquiry.”

Then, On July 22 2008, in a general staff meeting, where Ikeda sensei did not attended, President Harada stated “There are ones who have not listened to the order of top leaders, and have not listened to the advice of their bosses.” In his statement, there was a vaguely suggested criticism of us having not signed the written pledge. On July 25, three days after that, the Audit Committee decided to suspend us from being involved in the activity in our local district. According to the Committee, the reason was that Kodaira, Takigawa, and Noguchi had not signed the written pledge, regardless of the reasons.
They considered that the main problem of us was “Kodaira, Takigawa, and Noguchi had not signed the written pledge.” It seems to us that the contents of the written pledge did not matter. The Audit Committee manipulated and shifted the focus on purpose, and members in our local district started seeing us and other innocent members with wrong bias that we (including the innocent members) had caused problems but refused to sign the written pledge.
We just would like President Harada to know the truth. More than that, we would like him to talk in person and listen to us. Also, we would like him to conduct a re-inquiry, judging this matter not by what position they have, but by what they did (the actions).

We had already received the response from President Harada, and it said that they did not accept to conduct a re-inquiry. However, on July 22 2008, in a general staff meeting, President Harada mentioned as following: ”I think that it is very important for us to say opinions freely(without restriction). So, I think that you should not hesitate to say your opinions to me.” When Kodaira heard this message from him, we felt that he were trying to pick up and listen to the voice of young staff.” Also, Kodaira thought; “he might have misunderstanding about us, so he refused to conduct a re-inquiry. In order to clear up his misunderstanding, I should have written the letter in more details.” Then, Kodaira decided to write a letter once again. In the second letter, Kodaira summarized in more details what he thought was wrong and contradictory in these series of events.
Additionally, in the letter, Kodaira wrote about his determination that he would challenge his human revolution if president Harada found something wrong on him and told him the reasons. Then, Kodaira asked President Harada in the letter to talk and listen to Kodaira once.

On September 10 2008, during the lunch time, Kodaira called out to President Harada on the street in front of the headquarters’ building. Kodaira’s voice was quivering because of nervousness. Kodaira said “I’m really sorry for bothering you with the trouble of the organization. I bring a letter today, wondering that you could possibly talk to me, sir”. President Harada said to Kodaira “I got it.”, and received the letter from Kodaira. He was rejoiced and thought President Harada would understand the truth and us when president Harada read it.

Kodaira chanted desperately, waiting for the response from President Harada. However, He had received no response from him for a month. Kodaira knew that President Harada was very busy, but he could not give up because there were members who were suspended from Soka Gakkai activities in their local districts because of the unfair and wrong judgement by the Audit Committee. Kodaira really would like President Harada to listen to him. Kodaira wondered whether or not he should write a letter again. Kodaira thought handing the third letter to him could be impudent. However, it occurred to Kodaira that the priority was to let President Harada know the real situation of the innocent members. So, Kodaira could not give up. He renewed his determination to write a letter to President Harada one more time.

In the third letter, Kodaira wrote as following:
“I do not have any thoughts that I am not willing to sign the written pledge. I have a strong feeling that I would like to apologize sincerely if I did a wrong thing. But the fact was that some staff suffered innocent members with the advantage of their positions, but the judgement was made without listening to them. They mentioned “It is impossible to find the truth”. This is their judgement, and hearing this, I strongly thought I could not sign the written pledge, or made a pledge. I just would like to live an honest and sincere life.”

On October 22 2008, during the lunch time, Takigawa and Mr. Ibaraki visited the seat of President Harada with the third letter. Usually, Soka Gakkai staff do not talk with President Harada, so Kodaira and Mr. Ibaraki were intensely tensed.
Takigawa called out to President Harada, held out the letter to President Harada, and said to President Harada “Could you possibly take a little time to talk and listen to us? President Harada did not stop walking, received the letter while walking, and told Kodaira “You should listen to your seniors without doing like this.” Then, he walked away. Takigawa welled up his courage, called out “Thank you, sir!” to President Harada who were walking away, as vowing.

Although President Harada remonstrated Kodaira, he received Kodaira’s letter. No sooner had Kodaira went home than he started chanting. He chanted desperately every day. Kodaira just would like President Harada to know the truth. Kodaira thought, he had to talk even for a short time and clear the misunderstanding of President Harada.

Nevertheless, November 2, 10 days after that, when we were given another penalty of the extension of the period of the suspension, the top leaders of Soka Gakkai in Kanagawa reproached us for the act of handing a letter to President Harada, showing the actual letter to Kodaira. The fact was that the letters which we handed to President Harada was delivered to the leaders in Kanagawa. Apparently, it was the hidden answer from President Harada. “How could it be?” Kodaira said to himself. It made Kodaira suffered much. Kodaira recalled the message from President Harada in the meeting; “I think that you should not hesitate to say your opinions to me.” Kodaira was trembled with angry.

Noguchi and Takigawa Visit President Harada to Ask Him to Take Time to Talk

On May 2010, a year and a half has passed since the letters which we handed to President Harada were passed to leaders in Kanagawa. During the time, the four members who had not signed the written pledge were punished, and their positions (ranks)in Soka Gakkai were taken away. Then, they were out of the suspension. However, each member were still treated unfairly and unjustly ; they were labeled in their local districts, and the leaders in their districts did not inform them of the schedules of meetings.
Mr. Kyoto was regarded as the central person who led “the group within the group”(faction), and he was considered to be a person who rebelled against President Harada. Additionally, the leaders in his district did not inform him of the schedules of meetings.
Mr. Hyogo was told by his district fellow members “Our senior leaders said that in our district we must not encourage, foster, and even talk if possible. In addition, some leaders worked on members in Mr. Hyogo’s district not to allow Mr. Hyogo to speak in meetings.
Mr.Hidenobu Kimoto were in charge of the Future group in a chapter, and also he delivered Seikyo Newspaper in a local block in substitution for Komei Newspaper workers. Mr. Kimoto also volunteered for the Komeito. However, one day, Mr. Kimoto was suddenly told that he could join meetings only in the condition that he came with a senior-chapter leader. Then, nobody in Men’s division informed him of the schedules of meetings.
Mr. Shimane was the first member who raised his voice against Mr. Wakayama’s act of slandering and criticizing his innocent senior member. However, one of Mr. Shimane’s friend who Mr. Shimane did Shakubuku said to Mr. Shimane “I was told by a senior Soka Gakkai member not to take what you said seriously.” ,and his friend started ignoring Mr. Shimane. Worse, one after the other members in his district began to ignore.

In order to talk and solve this problem, we did everything that we could think of. However, no leaders had not listened to us. Top leaders told us the same thing in a common, “President Harada is the person who is responsible, so you should ask him!” “You should ask far more times.” “You should talk to President Harada.” They said something like that repeatedly. Noguchi, who was the only person among us who was left in Soka Gakkai headquarters, pondered over and over the reason why he keep staying in the headquarters. President Harada had received the letters but refused to talk with us three times so far. So, Noguchi thought that President Harada would not listen to me in all likelihood when I asked him again. He thought over and over which choices is better; the one is he should ask President Harada to talk to him. The other was, before asking, he should be a person who President Harada trust much more especially in terms of working performances. Noguchi thought procrastinating is the choice of running away. Noguchi chanted daimoku desperately.

Then, Noguchi’s comrades, who were unfairly transferred from the headquarters to local areas like Kyushu, Kanagawa, Hiroshima, emailed Noguchi about their current struggle to gain the trust from colleagues in their new working places. Noguchi, who sat in a seat in a cafeteria in the headquarters alone, saw President Harada walking. When Noguchi found it, Noguchi felt very scary. Noguchi realized how important his comrades are for him. Since they started working in the Student Division, Noguchi and his comrades had chanted daimoku together, encouraged each other, and fought for Soka Gakkai with strong bond so far. Noguchi thought “If I do not stand up right now, we would never be able to clear up the misunderstandings and the mistreatment on the innocent members who suffered a lot. I have to be strong and overcome my cowardliness.”
Just one time, just one time, Noguchi would like President Harada to listen to him about the members who fought for Soka Gakkai sincerely and earnestly, but who were treated unfairly and wrongfully. It was painful to be judged by President Harada without listening even once. Noguchi thought, if President Harada misunderstand us, he had to tell the truth and clear up President Harada’s misunderstanding. Then, Noguchi gathered his courage and made a determination to tell to President Harada that the conclusion of the Audit Committee turned out to hide the scandals of headquarters’ staff and make innocent members scapegoats. Noguchi thought to himself “I will fulfill the meaning of being left in the headquarters.”

Noguchi made a determination to write a letter to President Harada. Noguchi wrote about the fact that the headquarters’ staff hid the scandals, and the fact that top leaders had never given us opportunities to talk and listen to us.

On May 6 2010, Noguchi could not sleep at all, and the morning came. Noguchi took a letter with himself, and went to the seat of President Harada before the start of working time. Trying to stop trembling of his legs, Noguchi stood in front of President Harada, and handed the letter to him, saying “I’m sorry to interrupt you, but I have something very important to report.” President Harada’s face got grimed, and told Kodaira “Reflect on what you have done! I cannot receive your letter today!” President Harada turned back on Noguchi. Noguchi said “President Harada, please, sir.”
However, President Harada did not turned around. Noguchi just kept standing. All Noguchi could do was to leave the place. President Harada did not receive our letter after all.

Noguchi could not understand what scene and what deed he should reflect on, though President Harada said Noguchi should do so.
The problem which the Audit Committee dealt with was a series of problems which had began with the wrongful and unfair shuffle of the personnels, and continued for six years. So, Noguchi could not understand the way of President Harada’s response to Noguchi, “Reflect on yourself.” However, Noguchi could not ask to President Harada what his deed President Harada regarded as a problem. Noguchi was angry at himself because of his cowardliness. As soon as coming back home, Noguchi chanted daimoku desperately. The more Noguchi chanted daimoku, the more strongly he felt he should not give up. Noguchi said to himself “I failed to tell and ask to President Harada. I have failed to do anything I had to do so far. If I give up now, I will lose the meaning of staying in the headquarters. So I have to visit President Harada again, and let him receive our letter.” Noguchi made a determination to visit President Harada again.

On May 11, during the lunch break, Noguchi took a latter with him and headed for the desk of President Harada. While chanting in his heart, he walked there. Noguchi bowed to President Harada, and asked “Excuse me, could you possibly have time, sir?” President Harada’s face changed, and yelled at Noguchi, saying “You wrote your apology in paper and have brought it, haven’t you!” Noguchi did not hold back, and said “I did not bring it.” Harada responded “Then, you should go!” Noguchi held out his letter to President Harada, and tried to say “Mr. Iwate told me I should visit President Harada.” Before Noguchi saying it, President Harada interrupted and shouted “What Iwate said does not matter! It’s your faith that the root of the problem is. The other things do not matter at all!” Noguchi did not flinch and said “I’m sorry but, I think that the inquiry was not conducted appropriately, sir.” Harada started shouting as resounding the floor everywhere. President Harada told Noguchi “I’m not talking about the inquiry! I’m telling you about the male division activities you have worked on!” “Go if you do not bring written apology! That’s it! Go!” When Noguchi look around, three executives surrounded Noguchi. About 30 staff was surprised by the big voice of President Harada, and were gazing at the scene. Noguchi looked at the three executives, and had no choice but to leave the place. Regret and anger welled up within Noguchi’s heart. “Why did he refuse just to receive the letter? It is unacceptable not to tell us what we should reflect on?” We were just told that we were not allowed to ask questions until we handed in our written apology. We could not understand it at all.

I read the written pledge many times, but I do not think the contents of written pledge are right and accurate because the written pledge covered up the scandals of Soka Gakkai staff, and made innocent members scapegoats instead.
I can swear by my mentor, Ikeda sensei that the act of signing the written pledge is totally wrong.

My spirit will never be defeated. It is totally unacceptable for Ikeda sensei’s disciples not to raise our voice about what we found is wrong. If we just turn a blind eye on the evil, it is the same thing as accepting the evil. Noguchi chanted desperately. “What do I have to do?” “What action do I have to take to talk with President Harada?” Chanting continuously, then Noguchi made a resolve, “I will go to hand the letter to President Harada again.”

On June 1 2010, during the lunch break, Noguchi went to the desk of President Harada. He did not feel his legs tumbled this time. Noguchi said “I came here for the same purpose as the last time. President Harada pointed at Noguchi, and shouted “If you do not feel sorry for what you did, get out of here!” “Bring your written apology, otherwise I cannot talk to you!” “Have you brought written apology?” Moreover, he added “You have been bothering your seniors! Do you feel sorry for that?” “Tell me! Do you feel sorry for that?” Noguchi did not hold back. Noguchi said “I do not think of what I should reflect on and sorry for. Then, I would like you listen to me, sir.” President Harada responded “You do not know such a thing!” Figure it out by yourself!” “It’s over.” “Go! Back to work! Chant Daimoku more!” It was like “No question asked.” It seemed that President Harada was not in the mood to talk.” Noguchi gave up, and left the place.

Noguchi felt painful because he was told “bothering your seniors” If President Harada gave Noguchi an opportunity to talk and listen to Noguchi, Noguchi did not need to ask his seniors of many for dialogue. Noguchi could not think what President Harada told was unreasonable and inconsistent. Noguchi thought to himself “Why did not President Harada listen to me at all though I asked him many times?” Anger and tears welled up. Noguchi said to himself “I decided and swore by my mentor Ikeda sensei “I will never be defeated.” This is the trial which put my faith and the relationship between me and Ikeda sensei to the test. I will struggle with my whole being against the “Ostrich policy which has taken root the headquarters.”

In the night, hearing from Noguchi about the his exchange with President Harada, Takigawa was not able to contain himself. “Why did not President Harada talk and listen to Noguchi, even less receive our letter?” This letter was the compelling voice of the innocent members, and we wrote it to let President Harada to know how the innocent members had been treated. Takigawa thought that the reason why the members were treated wrongfully was they did not obey the guidance of President Harada. Takigawa thought to himself “If I turn a blind eye on what is going on, I would lose the principle, “We, Soka Gakkai staff, exist, owing to its members.” Takigawa said to himself “I also have to ask President Harada’s favor to talk and listen to me. I have to make sure how President Harada will respond with my own eyes and ears.”

On June 2 2010 Takigawa took a holiday and headed for Soka Gakkai headquarters. Takigawa received the letter from Noguchi, and during the lunch break, Takigawa headed to the desk of President Harada. Then, President Harada was talking to the top leader of the youth male division. After they finished talking, Takigawa stepped to President Harada. Holding out the letter to President Harada, Takigawa said “President Harada, could you possibly receive this letter, sir?” President Harada received it, and headed up, gazing at Takigawa in silence. Then, President Harada looked down to make sure the sender of the letter. In the next moment, President Harada’s face got changed, and whacked the letter hard on the desk, shouting “You have brought your written apology, haven’t you!” The large floor was very busy because of the General meeting which was scheduled to be held the next day. So, elderly members, married female members, and young female and male members from local areas came to Tokyo, where the headquarters was located. All of them looked at the President Harada, who was yelling at Takigawa. Soon after that, Takigawa was surrounded by Mr. Shizuoka, a national leader of male division and Mr. Chiba, a chair person of national Gajyoukai. They took Takigawa out of the floor.

Takigawa experienced physically the way of President Harada to treat him, and felt even if we carried on asking, there will be fewer chances to talk to President Harada. Takigawa pondered over and over, chanting daimoku desperately. Takigawa said to himself “President Harada started shouting at me as soon as I handed the letter to him. So, if I visited him again to submit the letter in this circumstances, I will result in being scolded by President Harada. Plus, it will turn out to make a bad impression on President Harada, and will cause his misunderstanding. It is not what I want. It occurred to Takigawa he should give up.” However, the more Takigawa chanted, the more strongly Takigawa felt he cannot give up because he encountered and got to know the corruption of the headquarters.
Takigawa thought to himself “It is me who can tell it to President Harada since I encountered and experienced the problem. I have to because some members are still suffering a lot. If I ignore this, could I meet Ikeda sensei with confidence? Isn't procrastinating to solve the problem which I encountered the same as deceiving my true feelings and betraying myself? Actually, Doing so is the same as “dead” for me.” Takigawa thought “It means “dead” if I could not live the lives of “the relationship of the mentor and the disciples”. The way of living is not meaningful and wrongful. Then, I have to carry on doing what I believed is right. Once again. Once again, I will visit President Harada.”

On July 8 2010, finishing the work of the day, Takigawa went to the headquarters while chanting in his heart.
When getting to the desk of President Harada, President Harada looked at him. Before Takigawa finished saying “this letter”, president Harada shouted “I have told you I would not receive it! You do not feel sorry, at all! No way! Go, go!” President Harada tried to get Takigawa out of the place.
Takigawa said “Please, please tell me what I should reflect on, sir.”
President Harada responded “Your seniors have given you guidance so far. You had better ask to yourself!” “Go, go, go!” His voice resounded the floor. At the next moment, the secretary of President Harada held Takigawa in a full nelson. Takigawa called out desperately though he was being dragged away by the secretary “President, president, president! Just one thing I would like to ask! Will Ikeda sensei, say you are right though you have never listened to me like this?”
Seeing Takigawa, who was being dragged away by the secretary, President Harada said “Of course, Ikeda sensei will!”

President Harada shouted “Of course, Ikeda sensei will!” However, why could he say “of course” without listening to the staff who was desperately asking President Harada to talk and listen? Instead, President Harada shouted and excluded the staff with force. The behavior of President Harada was totally unacceptable as the president of Soka Gakkai, which is based on the spirits of “dialogue”, Takigawa cannot help feel like that. Then, if Ikeda sensei saw the behavior of President Harada, he will definitely reproach the President Harada, Takigawa cannot help feel like that, too.
Takigawa saw what the current Soka Gakkai was like through the behavior of President Harada, “no question asked”, and Takigawa also saw that Soka Gakkai was falling into authoritarianism and bureaucracy.

“The true dialogue contains compassion, harmonious atmosphere, and empathy. We have to keep in mind that the leader, who forgot the spirits of dialogue, will fall into authoritarianism and bureaucracy.”
(The Guidance of Ikeda sensei)

We had to transform this rigid organizational structure of Soka Gakkai headquarters. In order to solve the problem that some members were unfairly and wrongfully treated, we had to talk to President Harada.
Then, when Takigawa realized the current structure of the headquarters, it occurred to Takigawa that there were other members who were suffered by Soka Gakkai staff all over Japan, and the problem which we encountered was just a tip of the iceberg.

Takigawa could not give up having dialogue with President Harada. If the headquarters became the ones, which were not based on the guidance of Ikeda sensei, it meant that we broke our vow with Ikeda sensei. We must not never let it happen. Takigawa thought to himself “Even if I lose my life, I have to keep the promise with Ikeda sensei.” Takigawa made his determination stronger.

NO.6 The Problems of Soka Gakkai Headquarters to Hide Scandals of Top Leaders(June 2002-May 2010)

“Soka Gakkai is not for its executives. It is for its members. We must never ever let them suffer. So, when you find a wrong leader, raise your voice and speak out “what you are saying (doing) is opposite to the guidance of Soka Gakkai!”By speaking out your opinions or encouraging earnestly, we should grow a great leader.”(Guidance of Ikeda sensei)

“In order to make Soka Gakkai better, speak out your opinions clearly and
courageously. Then, the persons in upper positions have to listen to them and accept their opinions if they are right.” (Guidance of Ikeda sensei)

Our mentor said
“Soka Gakkai is not for its executives. It is for its members.”
“We must never ever let them suffer.”

If we encountered a leader who treats a member badly or unfairly and suffered the members, raise your voice with courage!
Throw yourself into the challenge of having dialogue with the leader, with courage!

“I know that.”
“I’ll do it when time has come.”
“Nothing will be changed even if only I raise my voice.”
You may find many excuses.

However, we can gain true happiness without courage!
It is courage that gives us the power to overcome difficulties.
It is courage that gives us the power to build the foundation of happiness.
Without courage, we can not create future!

Then, my friends!
Thinking a single person’s happiness is (leads to) the development of Soka Gakkai, the voice of courage will be the mercy to safeguard your fellow members, and the voice of courage also will be justice to create great leaders.

My friends! For your self-happiness and for the creation of “Soka Gaakai for people” as Ikeda sensei hopes for, raise your voice of justice to create a true union between fellow members!

On February 22 2010, Mr. Ibaraki was transferred from Shinano-machi in Tokyo to Hiroshima. He thought he should call on the chief editor to pay his respect before moving to Hiroshima. The chief editor was Iwate vice-president (of Soka Gakkai), the chief of the Audit Committee, and Mr. Ibaraki’s boss, and who was transferred from Soka Gakkai headquarters to Seikyo Newspaper headquarters a half year ago. In the local district, as a result of intentionally careless investigation, the Soka Gakkai members who were slandered and criticized unfairly were labeled as “rabbles” and kept away from other members; they were not informed of meetings on purpose.
We, Kodaira, Takigawa, and Noguchi felt we had to save the members whatever it took. Before leaving the Seikyo Headquarters, Mr. Ibaraki was determined deeply, he would do everything he could. He thought he had to tell Iwade vice-president about the fact that there were members who suffered from the unfair conclusion of the Audit Committee, and he had to plead Iwate vice-president for the re-inquiry.

On April 27 2010, Mr. Ibaraki made an appointment with Iwate vice-president and went to his seat. Mr. Ibaraki brought up the topic of the inquiry of the Audit Committee and said “As one Seikyo Newspaper staff, I have no regret even if I leave here because I have spared no time and effort to work for Soka Gakkai. However, I have one big regret. It is the inquiry conducted by you. I would like you to know there are members who suffers from the unfair inquiry” Mr. Ibaraki continued, “Each member has given all to fighting for Ikeda sensei. Nevertheless, they were made scapegoats, their ranks were taken away, and they are still labeled as the “rebels.” I think that such a thing should never be allowed in Soka Gakkai whatsoever. Could you please possibly conduct re-inquiry?”
Then, Iwate vice-president’s face suddenly grew serious, and started talking in a stern tone of voice. “I have nothing to talk about it! If you want to talk about it, go back to your work!” The conversation would be almost over without talking anything. Mr. Ibaraki pled desperately, saying “Why do you say so? I know you conducted the inquiry.”
Then, Iwate vice-president responded “I did it as the president Harada told me! You should talk to him!” Ibaraki said “I’m afraid that I asked to president Harada again and again. I asked every top leader of the headquarters, but no one has not listened to me.” Then, Iwate vice-president told Mr. Ibaraki “I have nothing to talk about! I’m telling you to ask the president!” Mr. Ibaraki said desperately “the ranks of the earnest member were taken away, and nobody in their local district informs them even of the schedules of meetings at all.” Iwate vice-president raised voice at Mr. Ibaraki, shouting “I won’t listen to you!!” Then, Iwate vice-president turned himself in a opposite direction, which implied there was no longer the place for having a dialogue. Mr. Ibaraki had no choice but to leave the place.

Iwate vice-president had never touched the topic of the inquiry after all, just saying “I did it as the president told me” and then telling “Talk to the president.”just to try to avoid Kodaira.
Although he obeys the direction of a person in an upper position, when Iwate vice-president was called to account, he shifted the responsibility onto the person in a upper position than him. I cannot help feeling how irresponsible the structure of the organization is. Mr. Ibaraki thought there were not only that reason but also the other one why Iwate vice-president raised his tone and refused to talk with Mr. Ibaraki. The reason was Iwate vice-president did not want the scandals of the top leaders of youth men division to come to light again.

The Unfair and Problematic Personnel Shift Hid by the Audit Committee

March 30 2008, we submitted to the Audit Committee a statement consisted of 182 pages. It was the summary of the facts and the process of the unfair and problematic personnel shift: the youth top leaders of the headquarters staff forced those who in lower positions voice opinions against them, to “retire”from the Student division.

July 2002, the personnel shift was conducted and Kodaira was transferred in the name of “graduation” from the student devision to the youth men division just two days after he had been noticed about it. In the background of the sudden transfer, the top leaders, who were in charge of the personnel shift, hated the three regional leaders of Kanagawa, Kodaira, Takigawa, Noguchi.

We the three, used to be typical leaders of Soka Gakkai, and just after retiring from the universities, we were employed by Soka Gakkaia and started working in the headquarters. We prioritized the mottos of the headquarters and keeping the order of the organization. However, as we had applied ourselves to the activities of the students division and worked hard together with the local members, we, the three Soka Gakkai staff realized that as other headquarters staff, we also had a sense of superiority to ordinary members, and had a mindset of ignoring dialogues. Then, we continued to dedicate all our strength into the practice of dialogues, based on the guidance of Ikeda sensei and betting our human revolution: we put trust on others, prayed for them as much as we could, welled courage, and told to each other “Right is right, and wrong is wrong.” There, we and the members were full of vigor: trust between us began to grow, and we pursued the truth together. Then, we exercised ourselves in the day to day Buddhist practice, keeping out of the cozy and dependent relationship with each other and telling our honest opinions to each other. After a thorough dialogue, we gained true understanding. As a result, everyone practiced Buddhism with full of energy and rejoice, and built up the experiences of faith. As a result, Kodaira, Takigawa, Noguch became able to give honest opinions to senior leaders, gradually. Concerned about the fact that the mottos of the student division shifting to a merit and result -based, Kodaira, a main leader of the student division, consulted a top leader of the student division with a honest feeling. The top leader asked “What is the average number of “Shakubuku” in your place?” Kodaira responded “We will be able to achieve the goal of one household in average.” The leader told “You are giving me an opinion even though you have not achieved the goal, are you? You had better come here after making a good result.” He had almost no intention to listen to Kodaira. Then, Kodaira told him desperately “I think it is not right that we are not be allowed to give any opinions until I make it.”

I did not think that we were totally right. However, I think it would be against the guidance of Ikeda sensei, if we allow Soka Gakkai to be a place where we could not give honest opinions to each other. If Soka Gakkai became such a rigid organization, it is ordinary members who will suffer the most. After that, the top leaders started complaining in the back of Kodaira saying “Kodaira judges things right or wrong too clearly.” “Kodaira is more suited to the youth men division than the student division.

In 2002, nine months after Kodaira was appointed to a regional leader of the student division, Kodaira was called to come to see by Mr. Chiba, a top national leader of the student division, and Mr. Shizuoka, a top secretary of the student division. There, Kodaira was told that he was going to “graduate” (retire) from the student division in two days. The next alternate leader, however, was undecided. Also, no time was given to other members in Kawasaki region to take over Kodaira’s duties. By the sudden notice from the two, Kodaira went blank. Then, On a later day, it was announced that another leader of student division would take over the position. The alternate leader was Mr. Nagano, who was a vice-national leader of the student division. Needless to say, Kawasaki region, where Kodaira had been in charge of came in confusion because Kodaira was suddenly retired, and because a new top leader would come to fill in Kodaira’s position. What Kodaira could then was just to explain desperately to the members about his “graduation”(retirement). It seemed that they were desperately trying to accept the truth.

In fact, the personnel shift which Nagano vice-national leader was responsible for was, actually, conducted deliberately. It was the violation of the official process of the personnel shift: Chiba national leader in the student division and Shizuoka national secretary in the student division pulled the strings. (Later on, the period of the time that Nagano vice-national leader held the position of the top leader in Kawasaki region was recorded as “three month blank”, and the Audit Committee admitted that the personnel shift was not officially conducted.)

Moreover, in September 2004, the personnel structure of the student division was changed: Mr. Gifu became a national leader of the student division, and Mr. Aichi became new national secretaries of the student division. The two ignored the confusion of Kawasaki region. They shuffled the personnels in the region, and as a result, 11 out of 19 regional leaders were forced to retire from the student division, simultaneously. In the personnel shift, Takigawa, Noguchi, and Mr. Ibaraki were forced to retire, officially. Noguchi was just 25 years old at that time. The current top leader of youth men division knew his age and talked to Noguchi as follows: “the Soka Youth Personnel Department set up a standard of the age that a member or staff in the student division should move on to the youth men division. It is 27 years old. Noguchi is still 25 years old. There is a lot you can do (in the student division).” It is obvious that the time that Noguchi retired from the student division was too early.

Mr. Ibaraki and Takigawa, who used to be regional leaders, did not just placed their district mottos which the headquarters had created. They thought and discussed the contents in order to make the Buddhist practice more beneficial for each member. Then, they gave opinions actively to the leaders in higher positions. Because they worked on the practice with their own thoughts and views, the top leaders of the student division, who think that members should do what they were told submissively, criticized in the behind, saying “They made an independent nation.” Those who could speak out their opinions with courage became subject to the retirement of the student division. It was the same as the case of the personnel shift which Kodaira had experienced two years before.

After Takigawa, Noguchi, and Ibaraki retired from the student division, Mr.Gifu, a national leader of the student division sent Mr. Wakayama, who is Soka Gakkai staff and lived in another prefecture. Mr. Wakayama was ordered to move to Kawasaki-city, and was appointed to the territorial leader by Mr.Gife. (Later on, Mr. Wakayama testified that Gifu national leader of the student division assigned him the task to reconstruct the organization of Kawasaki region, explaining about the problem of factionalism in Kawasaki region of the student division.)

Moreover, Mr Shiga, who was a regional leader, put off the prepared plan of the personnel shift on the very day just before the interview. He explained the following reason about the sudden change of the plan, which was“because Mr. Shiga had not received the leadership information cards.” The planned personnel shift was canceled, and chapter leaders who came to take interviews, got dumbfounded. (On later days, former regional secretary of the student division commented that the leadership information cards were delivered and ready.)

The unfair personnel change had been repeated over two years. It was difficult for members to accept and take it as “the will of Buddha” or “The position(rank) is conferred by Ikeda sensei.”

“We have to deal with the matter of money and positions correctly with the strict attitude.” (Guidance of Ikeda sensei)

In Soka Gakkai, when members or staff caused scandals involving personnel management, they have been punished strictly as the ones involving money or male-female relationship since the time that Toda was the president of Soka Gakkai. Although I submitted a statement with the detail about the fact, the Audit Committee concluded as follows; “There was nothing wrong with the process of the personnel change.” Needless to say, the reason was not mentioned in it at all.

Then, Chiba national leader of the student division, Shizuoka national secretary of the student division, Gifu national leader of the student division, and Aichi national secretary of the student division, all were involved in the scheme of the unfair personnel change, but they were just given light punishment as verbal warnings. (When the Audit Committee inquired us, Mr. Shizuoka was a national leader of youth men division, Mr. Chiba, the chief of Gajokai. They were the linchpins of Soka Gakkai.) However, the Audit Committee hid again and again, the problem of unfair personnel change by the Soka Gakkai staff.

“Personnel management is the lifeline of Soka Gakkai.”
(Guidance of Ikeda sensei)

Nevertheless, Iwate vice-president, who was the chief of the Audit Committee and conducted the inquiry on us, said “The three, Chiba national leader of the student division, Shizuoka national secretary of the student division, and one territorial leader of the student division, testified it!” “You want to say what they told me was false and wrong, do you?” “What you are saying is false! ”

The Audit Committee judged people from their ranks; they decided which side of their story was trustworthy from their ranks. Their judgement was that the top leaders of the youth men division should not be accused.

The Conclusion of the Headquarters of Soka Gakkai which Resulted in Overturning the right and wrong of the Problem

On the other hand, the innocent members, who raised their voices against the scheme of the unfair personnel change, were judged as follows; “the members made a group within the group (Soka Gakkai), and they rebels against Soka Gakkai.”
Moreover, they considered Mr. Kyoto as the leader of “the group within the group” with prejudice, and concluded that Mr. Kyoto was the one who stirred everyone up. In fact, Mr. Kyoto was the scapegoat of this problem: he was blamed and slandered in a sudden by Wakayama national leader of the student division though Mr. Kyoto had already graduated (retired) from the student division, and had already started participated in the activities in the youth men division. The conclusion of the Audit Committee was too coercive.
(We had already been considered to be as the faction when Mr. Wakayama was sent there.) Mr. Wakayama criticized and slandered repeatedly the leaders of Kawasaki region, such as Kodaira,Takigawa, and Noguchi, saying “The time when they were in charge of the Kawasaki region was a blank period.” By criticizing and slandering, they tried to attract members, and stabilize the organization of Kawasaki region. Moreover, they started aiming to criticize publicly Mr. Kyoto and other members, who were in the youth men division. As a result, the members were looked with prejudice.

The Audit Committee forced us to sign the written pledge and to make an oath to dissolve the group and not to repeat the same thing as making a group in the group (Soka Gakkai). However, the contents of the written pledge itself was vague, and their definition of the movement of making a group in the group (Soka Gakkai) was not clear. So, whether or not it is the act of “making a group in the group” entirely depends on how the executives feel. That is the way of the headquarters how to make up a story that members rebells against Soka Gakkai. Then, they excludes them even if they have raised their voice against the scandals or misbehaving of executives.

In addition, the Audit Committee ordered us to make an oath not to seek for dialogues about the executives, who were engaged in the scheme of the unfair transfer. The aim of the headquarters is to sweep the problem of the executives under the rug, ignoring what we petitioned in our statement about the unfair transfer.

The conclusion of the Audit Committee was to protect the leaders in charge of the scheme of the unfair transfer, instead, by labeling the members, and making them scapegoats. It was the judgement which overturned the right and wrong, and it was totally injustice. We could not turn a blind eye on it.

Turning blind eye on injustice, and letting it past is the act of forgetting the gratitude and treaty against our mentor. Also, we never should not let past even a small evil thing which will be possible to make members suffer. If we do, the small evil will spread in the whole organization, and devastate the sacred world of our bonds in Soka Gakkai. (Guidance of Ikeda sensei)

As the disciples of Ikeda sensei, if we turn a blind eye on the corruption of the headquarters of Soka Gakkai to hide the scandals of the leaders, and sign the pledge, and accept it, we will become the betrayer who forgot the gratitude toward our mentor. We just want to live our lives as Ikeda sensei told us no matter what will confront us. The act of allowing innocent members who have spoken out courageously like “wrong is wrong” to be scapegoats will turn out to lose the meaning of the existence of Soka Gakkai.
We cannot allow it whatsoever.

To Seek for Dialogue with President Harada in Order to Protect the Members Who Were Made Scapegoats Because of the Misjudgment of the Headquarters

On May 4 2010, Mr. Ibaraki left Hiroshima. Takigawa was also transferred from the headquarters to the Yokohama Ikeda auditorium on November 2009. Only left in the headquarters was Yusuke Noguchi.

Noguchi recalled the days of the inquiry, and thought about the comments of Iwate vice-president “I did as president Harada told me. Talk to the president!”
Two months ago, on February 8 2010, To meet Miyagi vice-president, a son of Ikeda sensei, Noguchi visited the First Secretary Department. However, Gumma vice-president, the chief of the department, told Noguchi “Talk to the President!” “Visit President Harada!” “Visit president Harada, whatever!” “Visit president Harada as many times as you can, because you are a youth member!” “Visit president Harada because he is in the responsible position.” The every top leader told Noguchi to do so.

Ikeda sensei told president Harada “Harada has youthfulness. He also has experiences. Not to be high-hand. No. Never ever to be high-hand. Soka Gakkai entered the time of Honmon. I count on President Harada to foster young members to be capable and to devote all their beings for follow members, and to be the leaders for spreading of Mystic Lows”.
I think that is why he was chosen as the president, the most responsible position. He has to report this problem to Ikeda sensei. It is an important task of president Harada to listen and accept the report. He, however, has refused our offers even to make appointments to meet and talk. In fact, he criticized us indirectly in meetings.
I thought over and over; if I were Ikeda sensei, what would I do? What is a right thing to do? I chanted desperately, and recalled various guidance of Ikeda sensei again and again.

“We do not call it dialogue if you stop talking in the middle. The true dialogue should not be interrupted. It should continue up to the mutual understanding.”
(Guidance of Ikeda sensei)

I should not let myself to be defeated by my weak inner self and give up the struggle. Our mentor put trust on president Harada. I have to believe in president Harada, and keep seeking for dialogue. In order to prove the innocence of the members, I think it is the right path for his disciples to seek for dialogue no matter how many times he might refuse.

Thinking of the transfer of Mr. Ibaraki to a regional area, I could not say I did not have worries at all. When I visited top leaders, I always felt cowardliness within my self. I felt I was not brave enough. However, Then It always occurred to me that I became Soka Gakkai staff to champion Soka Gakkai, where Ikeda sensei had established, and to devote myself for fellow members. My mentor is Ikeda sensei!
I want to use my life to prove the justice of the members! I will fulfill the vow with Ikeda sensei whatever it might take!
Noguchi, who was left in the headquarters, was going to visit president Harada, carrying letters to petition for the re-inquiry.

No.5 The True Nature of Soka Gakkai Headquarter; No Dialogues(February 2010-March 2010)

The stagnation of dialogues and that of the freedom of speech will lead to the stagnation of the development of Soka Gakkai. The important thing is to raise your voice claiming “ justice is justice and truth is truth.” You do not need to be silent. You do not need to be afraid, neither. Your strong singleminded determination and the gale of actions will dispel the clouds appearing in the dark sky, and the victory of the sun will rise and shine. Regardless of how people react or how the temporary circumstances are, it will go down in history as the fact that you have raised the voice of justice.
(The guidance of Ikeda sensei)

Our mentor claimed
“The stagnation of dialogues is the stagnation of Kousen-rufu (the propagation of the Mystic Law).
“The stagnation of dialogues is the stagnation of the development of Soka Gakkai.”
“ Therefore, The dialogues are the justice and you can find the essence of the relationship between the mentor and the disciples in dialogues.
Dialogues represent Soka Gakkai, and represent courages.”

Therefore, you! You should not give up whatever!
Based on the guidance and the messages of Ikeda sensei, build the future of Soka Gakkai, with the true and sincere dialogues.

Even when we were fooled and kicked up by ones with extreme envy, raise the banner of dialogue high with courage.
Believe in the hearts of people and their potential, and put your heart and soul into courageous dialogues.
Where there is a dialogue, there is the development of Soka Gakkai.
Where there is a dialogue, there is the development of Kosen-Rufu.
Therefore, you!
Please do not forget that it is when we take on the challenges of having “dialogues” that the history of relationship between the mentor and the disciples were engraved in our hearts.

In February 25 2010 in the staff general meeting, it was announced that Kodaira would be transferred to Fukuoka prefecture in Kyushu as of April. He was ready to stand any difficulty. However, in the local district, there were members who were treated unfairly because he had raised the voices of justice against the corruption of the staff sent from the headquarter. He had to report the fact with whatever it took before he left for Kyushu. There was little time left. Kodaira continued to chant desperately.
The next week, March 1, Mr. Ibaragi was able to hand to Miyagi vice-president our letter addressed to Ikeda sensei. However, just after that, Kodaira was suddenly called to come to a single room by the manager of his office, who was the boss of Kodaira. He said “I was told by Aomori Vice President “Kodaira, staff in your office, came to hand a letter to Miyagi vice-president (one of sons of Ikeda sensei as Aomori vice-president). Give him warnings about it.” Aomori vice-president was the top supervisor of Kodaira’s office, so he was the boss of the office manager.

Kodaira asked the office manager honestly “Why is it not allowed to hand a letter to Miyagi vice-president?” “Why should I am given warnings from you and Aomori vice-president sir?”

If I did something wrong on my jobs, I should be punished. I can understand it. Handing a letter to Aomori vice-president to consult about the corruption of the headquarter staff was a different story, I thought. Taking their working time into consideration, we went to hand the letters, before the starting time of work.

Asked by Kodaira, the office manager kept silent as if he was at a loss for an answer. It seemed that he did not know and could not explain why it was not good to hand the letter to Miyagi vice-president to consult. The silence continued. Then, Kodaira asked “If you could not explain about the reason, could I possibly hear it straight from Aomori vice-president?” The office manager answered “Alright, I will ask him.”

The next day, March 2, Kodaira asked the office manager if he asked Aomori vice-president about the reason. He said “Aomori vice-president said “It’s impossible (to talk).” Kodaira explained desperately: “Because Aomori vice-president and other top leaders did not speak and listen to us, we could not help but handing a letter to Miyagi vice-president.” “I can not understand why I must not hand a letter to Miyagi vice-president. I can not promise not to hand a letter to Miyagi vice-president to consult.” Then, the office manager told Kodaira “Alright, you can not make a promise. I will report what you said as it was!” “Because of this, you might be called for punishment by the staff disciplinary committee.” The office manager said in a clogged voice. Kodaira could not understand by any means why the act of handing a letter to Miyagi vice-president itself would be a subject to punishment. (However, it became a subject to punishment later on.)Still, Kodaira did not explained to the office manager in details about the issues which he had experienced. So, Kodaira felt all the more that he would like the office manager to know the truth, through his own ears and eyes. We had to face and challenge the rooted submissive disposition of Soka Gakkai staff to follow the orders from his boss without considering the contents.

In March 13, Kodaira asked the office manager to take time to listen to him, and explained the series of events he had experienced, for two hours and a half. The office manager was just nodding. Then, Kodaira asked him to ask to Aomori vice-president and to make sure the reason why it was not allowed to hand a letter to Miyagi vice-president.

Against this, Aomori vice-president ordered the office manager to stop Kodaira from handing the letter to Miyagi vice-president. He also proposed to the Staff disciplinary committee that we had infringed the staff codes, and continued to criticize us indirectly. We thought if Aomori vice-president was mistaken about us, we had to solve the misunderstanding. There was no way for us but to talk with Aomori vice-president.

One week before Kodaira move to Kyushu, March 25 2010, Kodaira went to the desk of Aomori vice-president before the start of the work day. Kodaira asked “Could you possibly tell me the reason why it is wrong to hand a letter to Miyagi vice-president?” Then, Aomori vice-president told him: “Miyagi vice-president is an important person. So, don’t bother him.” “You can understand if you put in his position!” “You are making trouble! You are troubling the First General Affairs Division, too!”

The reason why I must not hand a letter was the same as the one which the staff in the First General Affairs Division told Kodaira: “Mr. Miyagi is an important person.” “He is bothered by being asked to receive your letter.” Kodaira said to Aomori vice-president “Mr. Miyagi received a letter willingly.” “Why do you think he was bothered by it? Did Mr. Miyagi actually say so?” asked Kodaira. “I don’t need to tell you about that!” Aomori vice-president replied evasively. After a moment, he added “You are visiting him without appointment, aren’t you! You are very rude! Normally, we make an appointments to do it. You don’t have sociality! You don’t have a common sense!” He raised his voice and said. According to Aomori vice-president, the reason why Kodaira must not hand a letter to Miyagi vice-president was that Kodaira did it without appointment. In addition, Aomori vice-president told Kodaira “Even now, you are visiting me without appointment! You are killing my working time! I have a schedule at 8:30. Don’t you think you are doing wrong things? you do whatever to achieve what you need, don’t you!
Kodaira apologized and said “I’m sorry if it wasted your time” “I wonder if you would possibly hear our stories once.”
I did not have any intention at all to disturb their work, and I just would like to make appoints with him.

However, Aomori vice-president continued “You are obstructing my work. You are obstructing the work of Soka Gakkai! You are going in the direction where you will interrupt Soka Gakkai’s work more and more.” “Don’t you feel sorry for interrupting our jobs?”Aomori vice-president raised his voice.” Kodaira’s voice was lost in the roar of his angry shouts. Kodira responded desperately “I don’t think so.” “Then, apologize profusely!” “I’m sorry for visiting without appointment.” Kodaira said, bowing deeply.
“I would like to make appointment later not to disturb your work, and then would like to visit you.” However, Aomori vice-president pointed Kodaira’s face with a finger and told him over and over “Get out of here! Get out of here!” Kodaira had no choice but to leave.

Kodaira was worried and suffered from the reaction of Aomori vice-president: he did not have intention to listen to Kodaira at all. Also, Kodaira pled to make appointment with him on a later day, in thought that he was mistaken about Kodaira. However, he refused flatly saying “I’m telling you “No” like thousand times. Get out of here! Get out of here!” Kodaira thought if he explained a reason why it was wrong to hand a letter for consulting about the scandals of the headquarter staff, Kodaira had to accept his order. Nevertheless, the reason Kodaira was told was: Mr. Miyagi was an important person. → He was bothered by Kodaiora.→ Kodaira visited him without appointment.
The reasons he explained were vague. Plus, Kodaira had been given different reasons in each time. Kodaira thought they were not sufficient reasons to warn me with authority against handing a letter to Miyagi vice-president.

It was wrong that the executives ignored staff in lower positions and members without listening to them. Plus. the executives warned them without listening to them even once. Then, they threatened the staff and the members saying “You will be a subject to punishment.” The headquarter felt Kodaira as if in the headquarter the staff were not allowed to have dialogues.

“Dialogue is the Golden Rules and the lifeline of religions.”
(The guidance of Ikeda sensei)

“As spreading the humanism which is based on the Buddhism, we should not get down the banners of “Dialogue is the Golden Rule of humanism” no matter what obstacles confronts us such as self-righteousness and Fanaticism.”
(The guidance of Ikeda sensei)

To Contact with the chief executive of the Women’s Devision close to Ikeda sensei.

We have to report the true nature of the headquarter and transform Soka Gakkai to the one which our mentor describes, with whatever we took. We made contacts with anyone who we had thought of; Hasegawa Soka Gakkai vice-administrator (the current Soka Gakkai administrator), Miyagi vice-president, Tochigi Soka Gakkai vice-administrator. However, all of them refused to report the scandals and the problem to Ikeda sensei. If we were wrong, we have to restart our faith and learn from scratch. Nonetheless, we were not allowed to have dialogues with them.
From April, I(Kodaira) had to go Kyushu. Physically, I would be being more than 1000 km away from the headquarter, but I could not give in. Even at that moment, the courageous members, who raised their voices against the corruption, had been treated unfairly. I had to report this problems to Ikeda sensei as soon as possible.

Kodaira chanted desperately, and thought over and over. Then, he thought of Ms. Yamanashi, the chief executive of Women’s Devision. He knew her because as he was a Soka University student, he worked as volunteering in the headquarter, and she was often with Ikeda sensei and supported him. Also, Kodaira was acquainted with her daughter, who was the former Soka Gakkai staff and whose husband was Kodaira's friend.
Kodaira was resolved to do whatever he could do as long as there was a slight possibility.

Kodaira chanted desperately. In March 30 2010 just before he moved to Fukuoka prefecture in Kyushu, he was able to meet Mrs. Saitama in Gin-mai center in Shinano-machi. Kodaira let Mrs Saitama listen to the recording tape of the oppressive inquiry by the headquarter audit committee. Mrs. Saitama’s brow darkened, and he tilted his head. Mrs. Saitama said “I see. I will tell this to my mother. I will call and let you know no matter what kinds of response she has.

Kodaira was very happy. Tears welled up in his eyes. The letter might be handed to Ikeda sensei from Ms. Yamanashi.

Kodaira went to the Haneda airport with slight hope in his mind. In the boarding gate, there were his comrades, and the members and their wives who were labeled as rebels. Kodaira told them “Thanks a lot! Here is the beginning of struggle. There were tears in their eyes. Kodaira vowed not to let the sincere members shed tears of vexation again. Until the very last moment, the members waved their hands, which made Kodaira determined to report to Ikeda sensei what the headquarter is being like. Then Kodaira left his hometown where he grew up and had lived for 33 years, for Kyushu.

No.4 The Fact That Our Letter Was Not Delivered to Ikeda Sensei Even from the Sons of Ikeda Sensei.(May 2008-March 2010)

Even now, I always talk with Toda sensei within myself, and lead for World Kosen-rufu. I would like everyone to follow the path of “the mentor and disciple”straight to the end and lead the victorious lives. You! Take on your struggle to fulfill your vow!”
(The guidance of Ikeda sensei)

In order to live the lives of “mentor and disciple”, the disciples talks with the mentors within.
In the world full of suffering, the disciples have carried on struggling, always talking with their mentors within.
Therefore, my friends!
Is our mentor in the headquarter?
No, he is in your heart, but within yourself!
In the age of chaos, believe in the justice within yourself, and raise your voices with your whole being.
“Wrong is wrong. Keep the words of your mentor”
Your mentor is always watching you.
He is always watching the hearts of his disciples.
We do not want things such as positions, properties and fames.
All I want is the sprits of fulfilling the eternal vow with our mentor, inscribed in my hearts.
I will never forget it!

We, who had not signed the written pledge, were seen as the problematic persons who had not obeyed the directions of the headquarter.
In July 25 2008, the personnel department of the headquarter delivered to us the judgement about the suspension from the activities of Soka Gakkai in our districts. They ordered us never to contact with our fellow members, and we were not allowed to participate in the activities of the Male Youth Division, much less not to meet Ikeda sensei in General Headquarter Meetings. The members, who we had spent time together in the same local district, they were told about us like“They (Kodaira, Takigawa, and Noguchi) were sick”“They were very busy”. In this way, the headquarter kept us away from the community of district systematically. We could still tolerate the treatment against us. However, it was more than we could bare that the innocent members were suspended from Soka Gakkai activities and kept in a difficult situation. For the members who struggle disparately in a rough society every day, fighting in Soka Gakkai with Ikeda sensei in their hearts is the meaning of their lives. However, they were taken away. The suffering of the members were beyond imagination. Because of this, we had written letters three times toward President Harada:“Could you possibly take time for us to talk and hear our story?” “Could you possibly hear our story?” “Would you please conduct a re-inquiry?” However, all the requests were flatly refused. Moreover, the suspension period was extended until March 31 2009. The days continued that we were not allowed to participate in the General Headquarter Meetings (broadcasted by satellite). We had sought for the guidance of Ikeda sensei, and devoured Seikyo News Paper every day.
Seeing that we had not signed the written pledge despite of the extension of the suspension period, the committee of the personnel department of the headquarter decided to remove us from all the positions in Soka Gakkai. (Position means, for example, District Leader) Additionally, we were forced to graduate from Gajyou-kai and Soka-han. Moreover, the local district, where the members belonged, treated the members more severely and severely; the local district did not tell them even the schedules of meetings. The false rumor circulated and they were called sarcastically “Nikken and Yamatomo”, and the members were losing trusting relationship with their follow members. Worse, among the members, there were ones who were to be blamed and criticized by their families.

In order to protect and maintain the graceful Soka Gakkai, and develop it eternally as Ikeda sensei envisioned, we have to report to Ikeda sensei about the nature of the headquarter, which is to hide the scandals of its staff (employees), and about the current relationship between the staff, “no equal dialogue allowed between them (mainly depending on positions)”, and about being made scapegoats of the pure members. However, the top leaders in management positions such as President Harada and Hasegawa Soka Gakkai vice-administrator had no intention to talk and hear our story even once.

We wanted to report the current nature of Soka Gakkai to Ikeda sensei no matter what. “Is there someone who could report this to Ikeda sensei?” Praying earnestly, we thought of Miyagi vice-president, a son of Ikeda sensei. However, we knew that Miyagi vice-president was close to Ikeda sensei and very busy. We were not sure that he could take time to talk and hear our story. Even so, we wrote the letter with the strong hope that he would.
It said “We never think that we were totally right.” “If you find us something wrong, we will change ourselves.”
We just wanted to do right things. We wanted to live the lives as Ikeda sensei taught us.

In December 28 2009, I went to the desk of Miyagi vice-president. Although my heart were beating by nervousness, I mustered up courage and asked him. “I have important things we have to report you, and brought a letter with me. Could you possibly read this letter?” Then I handed it to him. “Alright. Good job.” He answered with smile. My heart throbbed with hope.

Since then, we had been waiting for his reply. We chanted continuously with the desire that he would take time to talk with us. However, there was no response from him. We wondered that he would be thinking over how he should do about our sudden request. We continued to chant.

One month had passed since then. There was still no reply from him. Nonetheless, we could not give up, because there were members who were treated unfairly. I made a vow with Ikeda sensei.

Then, we decided to write to Miyagi vice-president again.
In February 8 2010, I went into the office where Miyagi vice-president usually worked.
Then, his assistant prevented my way. “What? What for did you come here? Miyagi vice-president is not here. Not here now!” Then, he got us out of the office by force. He told us “Do not bother Ikeda family about the problem within the organization (Soka Gakkai).”
“Mr. Miyagi is a special person. Don’t bother him.”

I could understand what he wanted to say. Actually, it was really heart-aching for me to ask Miyagi vice-president, who was really busy. However, in the local districts, there were members who had been treated as if they were rebels. I could swear with Ikeda sensei that there were no guilty and nothing to blame for on the members. We had to do something to break through the wall and to step forward.

As a disciple of Ikeda sensei, I was sure that it was important to respect the family of Ikeda sensei, who devotes themselves to support Ikeda sensei. However, it is certain that Soka Gakkai exists for people (its members), and our mentor have fought for them and their happiness. He taught us that it is people (its ordinary members) who are the protagonists. In fact, the innocent ordinary members were in most difficult situation. Then, there was no way for us but to continue to struggle to report this to Ikeda sensei. We thought that it was the meaning of being Soka Gakkai staff.

“If Soka Gakkai have privileged classes, they will exercise authority and the organization will go corrupted. The leaders of Soka Gakkai are not special, but equal to everyone. It is impossible that Soka Gakkai will move forward in solidarity toward achieving lofty goals, if we have privileged or loyal classes anyway. ”
(The guidance of Ikeda sensei)
“Everyone is equal, with no exception. I do not treat my family, who are related by birth, in a special way.”
(The guidance of Ikeda sensei)

My mentor, Ikeda sensei have had equal dialogues with people no matter what positions they had, such as nameless members, leading national figures. He treated them equally as a person. That is the true history of Soka Gakkai.
“Because he is a member of Ikeda’s family or because he is a special person, we should not bother him.” We did not think Ikeda sensei allow this notion by no means.

In the morning of February 15 2010, during the free chanting time in a large room in the headquarter, Kodaira sat next to Miyagi vice-president and spoke to him to hand the letter to him. “Miyagi vice-president” Then, in a sudden, two staff held Kodaira by under the arms, and pulled him back. At the moment, Kodaira did not recognize what was happening. Next moment, they got Kodaira out of the room by force.

It is wrong! I just want to hand this letter to him! Why did they prevent it even with violence?

Anger welled up in Kodaira’s heart. Since then, Kodaira was put under surveillance, and he was watched more and more closely day by day. In February 22, after the regular morning meeting, Kodaira was about to speak to Miyagi vice-president. Then, one staff tackled with his shoulder.

Kodaira said “Please wait. Why are you doing this? I would just like to hand this letter to him.”Then, the staff seemed to recover his senses. Kodaira spoke to Miyagi vice-president again. Miyagi vice-president talked to the staff around him “It’s ok. That letter is addressed to me, isn’t it?” Then, he reached for the letter. I was very pleased. On the other hand, the staff frowned on the scene.

After handing the letter to the vice-president, Kodaira went back to work as usual . After a while, Kodaira was called by the chief executive of the office. What he told to Kodaira was that Kodaira would be transferred and the details of the transfer would be notified later on. In the spot of the notification in the evening, B vice-president stated “Kodaira is going to be transferred to Kyushu Cultural Center.” The reason was that to improve individual working skills in accordance with the human resources personnel strategic project, which the headquarter had been undertaking.” The transfer from the headquarter in Shinano-amachi in Tokyo to Fukuoka prefecture in Kyushu, with which he had no connection- Kodaira was ready but his mind went blank. On the same day, it was also decided that G, who had not signed the written pledge like us, would be transferred to Hiroshima Peace Memorial Center. The reason was as the same as Kodaira. Superficially, the aim was to exchange staff with ones in local regions in accordance with the project”

The Response from the Sons of Ikeda Sensei

The staff close to Miyagi vice–president told us“Our job is to protect Ikeda’s family.” When they tried to prevent us from contacting with the vice-president even by force. Miyagi vice-president interfered between me and the staff, and received the letter from us. I was very happy as much as tears welled up in my eyes. We thought that he would hand our letter to Ikeda sensei, and would take time to talk and hear our story.

Ikeda sensei told us sternly “If you (Soka Gakkai staff) find corrupted staff, tell me about it. However, if I find something false on what you said, I will not trust you.” We thought we should entrust the letter to Miyagi vice-president. Along with the letter to Miyagi vice-president, into the same envelop we put the letter which we had written to Ikeda sensei.

In March 1 2010, Ibaraki visited Miyagi vice-president to hand our letter to Miyagi vice-president. He received the letter, but he said “Because you are doing things like this, you are thought to be against Soka Gakkai.”
In March 8, Noguchi asked to Miyagi vice-president “Have you possibly handed the letter to Ikeda sensei?” Then, he answered “It’s impossible.” “Because you are doing staff like this, you are considered to be rebels.”

Honestly, it was very tough. We did not think that we were totally right. However, they did not hear the voices of members, the true voices of theirs. Why could they reach a judgement without listening?
We could not understand.

Even Ikeda sensei’s sons avoided handing out letter to Ikeda sensei.
Why have every leaders never heard our story, even once!
In the first place, we experienced the enquiry, which was unfair. However, we received the punishment such as the suspension, the extension of the suspension, and dismissal from positions in Soka Gakkai. Then, we wrote over 50 pages and explained to Staff Disciplinary Committee why we could not sign the written pledge. As the result, we received the judgement, “no problem with us as staff.” However, President Harada, Masaki Soka Gakkai administrator, and B vice-president continued to criticize us in staff meetings. Even Hasegawa Soka Gakkai vice-administrator, a contact person to Ikeda sensei, refused to make a report to Ikeda sensei against his order. That is why we came to ask his sons in paper to report the problem to Ikeda sensei. Why could this considered to be against Soka Gakkai, and to be rebels?

The important thing is the sprits of “never being defeated when you hit the wall, which seems too high to overcome. Once you have raised the voices of justice, then keep on it until your feelings reach the persons.”
(The guidance of Ikeda sensei)

We will be never defeated! Never ever be defeated!
We prayed desperately with our whole being. Then, we remembered that Ikeda sensei sternly disciplined another son of his, Tochigi Soka Gakkai vice-administrator, in the general staff meeting in February. We thought we had to visit Tochigi Soka Gakkai vice-administrator, on who Ikeda sensei put trust.

In March 17 2010, Noguchi visited Tochigi Soka Gakkai vice-administrator.
We had lived as the staff of Soka Gakkai for a long time. We knew that what we were doing was beyond the common sense as Soka Gakkai staff. However, the common sense which we thought the most important and we had to keep is that Soka Gakkai staff, the headquarter, and Soka Gakkai exists for its members.
Noguchi handed our letter to Tochigi Soka Gakkai vice- administrator and pled him to report to Ikeda sensei. We could not get response soon from him. However, we believed that he was thinking seriously if he should report about it.

You can find the essence of humanism of Buddhism in that you believe in people and have dialogues, and continue the dialogues up to the agreements.
(The guidance of Ikeda sensei)

In March 29 of the same year,Noguchi visited Tochigi Soka Gakkai vice-administrator.
Noguchi asked him “Did you possibly hand our letter to Ikeda sensei?”
However, his response was “It’s impossible to hand the letter to Ikeda sensei from me.” “I handed it to the first general affairs division (The secretary section for Ikeda sensei)”

We knew that it is impossible to reach Ikeda sensei from the division. Actually, we had mentioned the fact in the letter to Tochigi Soka Gakkai vice-administrator. We also had explained in the letter the process until we came to plead to Tochigi Soka Gakkai vice-administrator, though we knew it was very rude to ask him :the other day, Kodaira had sent a report to the First General Affairs Division in order to tell Ikeda sensei his determination to fight continuously though all his positions in Soka Gakkai had been removed. However, one of the chief executives in the division, I vice-president, refused to receive the report, saying “How rude are you to tell Ikeda sensei about the dismissal from your positions in Soka Gakkai!” Plus, not only I vice-president but also Hasegawa Soka Gakkai vice-administrator and Miyagi vice-president, who were also the chief executives of the First General Affairs Division, had already refused to hand our letter to Ikeda sensei. In the letter to Tochigi Soka Gakkai vice-administrator, Kodaira had written about the nature of the First General Affairs Division. Even so, why on earth did he say to Noguchi he handed it to the First General Affairs Division? Noguchi was stunned and looked at the back of Tochigi Soka Gakkai vice-administrator, who were walking away.

No.3 The Response of Soka Gakkai Headquarter to the Soka Gakkai Members Who Did Not Sign the Written Pledge (October 2008-December 2009)

“We always have to raise our voices courageously for the happiness of people and peace. Voices the words of wisdom. Anyway, the point is actions. To live is to struggle.”
(The guidance of Ikeda sensei)

No one is perfect.
Because we are imperfect, the faith exists.
Because we are imperfect, we struggle.
Because we are imperfect, we have a mentor.
Because we are imperfect, the value of lives are created.

This is the same as the organization.
Because it is imperfect, the struggle of the three presidents (Makiguchi sensei, Toda sensei, and Ikeda sensei) have taken place.
Because it is imperfect, it developed.

Therefore,
You!
Without criticizing or complaining,
Initiate the actions to transform imperfection to perfection.
Take actions for what you believe is right.
As long as the disciples carry on the struggles,
Soka is justice.
As long as the disciples carry on the struggles,
imperfection itself can be perfection.
Therefore,
You!
It is in your inner self that Soka Gakkai exists.
You yourself are Soka Gakkai.
Transforming yourself, itself, is to lead to developing Soka Gakkai,
Do not forget it even for a moment.

Even though the problem happened within Soka Gakkai community of a local district, the corporate body of Soka Gakkai were about to investigate it. From this, I felt that they would do whatever they could to make us sign the written pledge.
The submission of the statement which was requested by the Staff Disciplinary Committee-
Wrong is wrong. we had already made a strong determination. Let’s behave sincerely with all our hearts, and we made a vow to say everything which we thought is right. Then, we put our heart and soul into creating the statement for our reasoning and submitted to the Staff Disciplinary Committee. I don’t think we are totally right. Rather, I have many weak points, and also make many mistakes. Then, I do not have any intention to say it was not my fault at all. However, it is important to know what is wrong with me all the more in order to improve the bad points. Otherwise, it is impossible to reflect on ourselves throughly and earnestly. However, in the inquiry conducted by the audit committee, they did not tell us of what the youth leaders accused us and what were their arguments, which was really important for us to know. There were no documents which were handed to us from the audit committee, and we did not know even what was approved and disapproved by them.
Moreover, the conclusion of the audit committee was that the both sides must sign the written pledge and receive equal punishment over the problem. The punishment to the side who slandered and harmed the members was just to sigh the written pledge, whereas the members who were harmed seriously were demanded unfair self-reflection, and the audit committee attempted to end this issue just with the both side signing the written pledge. It also said that the both sides never brought up this again.
The side, who suffered the most from the problems, was not the Soka Gakkai staff who had connection with the top leaders, but the members who did not. The conclusion of the audit committee was the indulgence for the Soka Gakkai staff who had a connection, and also it was a notice to the Soka Gakkai members to accept the conclusion meekly and silently.
The judgement was totally unacceptable. especially in Soka Gakkai where put its members first. Actually, a leader of Soka Gakkai staff of the Youth Member’s Devision, who was considered to have self-reflected and apologized for the issue, claimed in the community of the local district afterwards “It will come to light which is right and wrong soon.” “They are just putting on a bold front.” “They are not strong enough, and will come to apologize to us.” The leader continued to blame and slander us. The judgement of the audit committee did not lead to the settlement of the issue. Moreover, what the audit committee inquired and found out was kept secret and withheld from us. They attempted to end the inquiry, making us to obey their decision with silence.

What we had experienced in the corporative body of Soka Gakkai was the same as this. Even when one cause a serious problem, the one will be forgiven as long as the one follow what the one’s boss told, and the one will be protected as a result. In contrast, if one does not follow even if the one’s argument is right, the one will be kept away from the organization. Therefore, saying their opinions to the one’s bosses itself is regarded as causing a problem.

However, right is right, and wrong is wrong. we wrote down our true feelings and thoughts, and submitted to the Staff Disciplinary Committee. I thought we did not have any regrets no matter what punishment I would receive.
In April 15 2009, the result of the investigation by the Staff Disciplinary Committee was notified to us. It said “No problem with us as Soka Gakkai staff (employees)” The judgement of the Staff disciplinary was opposite to the one of audit committee.
“Good circumstance is unusual. Bad circumstance is usual.” We were very happy from the bottom of our hearts.

The True Nature of Soka Gakkai Headquarter, Where Our Report Have Not Reached Ikeda Sensei.

A half year after the Staff Disciplinary Committee reached the judgement, “no problems with us as Soka Gakkai staff (employee)”, the top leaders of the Soka Gakkai headquarter began to criticize us. In October 29 2009, Aomori vice-president took part in a meeting for Soka Gakkai young staff, and he commented as following “These days, among your young staff, there are ones who are dissatisfied with the decision made by the headquarter and have raised their voices. They have not followed our guidance. This is totally unacceptable.” In his words there was vaguely suggested criticism of us. We had to clear up their misunderstandings. With my tremulous feet, I visited Aomori vice-president. “Could you possibly take time for me to talk and hear my story?” Then, he responded “No way to meet you” “You should be careful of the way you act!” He refused our request flatly. Moreover, after several days, Masaki Soka Gakkai administrator made vaguely suggested criticism of us in a meeting. “There is one common thing among problems I have dealt with in every division. That is they always misunderstand that they understand Ikeda sensei the most, and criticize leaders, citing the guidance of Ikeda sensei.”
Criticism in public- We have not criticized the leaders but only would like them to know the truth. I thought we had to solve their misunderstandings. I had to ask for a dialogue and had to know the reasons why they criticize us. Then, I chanted daimoku with my whole being and visited the administrator. “I speak to the whole, but I don’t talk individually.” “No way! ,No way!” he told me just like that and left the place.
I did not understand why every top leader had denied talking and hearing our story. They had avoided even talking with me though they went on criticizing us publicly. My colleagues also kept away from me.

This is wrong, definitely.

The Staff Disciplinary Committee had made a judgement that we had nothing to blame on as Soka Gakkai staff. However, apparently,we were avoided by even the colleagues with who we have had a close relation before, probably because they thought it was dangerous to talk with us.
I was almost defeated. All I could do is to chant daimoku during commuting to and from work and during working. Then, the words of Ikeda sensei came up on my mind.

“If there should be something wrong, visit Hasegawa Soka Gakkai vice-administrator. Then, he will report it to me. I will look into the problem throughly. However, if I found your report something false, I have to punish you. Otherwise, it is not fair.”

I made a determination that I would devote ourselves to report to Ikeda sensei about the problem of the inquiry and top leaders, who had avoided talking with me and hearing my story. In December 14 2009, I visited Hasegawa Soka Gakkai vice-administrator. Looking at my tremulous feet, I thought I was not strong enough. There, I asked to Hasegawa Soka Gakkai vice-administrator whether or not he could read the letter which I brought with me, and hear my story about it.
However, he told me “Don’t use Ikeda sensei.” He refused my request. Obviously, it was against Ikeda sensei’s direction.

It was unacceptable. It was totally unacceptable. The true relationship of the mentor and disciple is to keep the promises with the mentor whatever happened with our whole being. There is no more serious sin than breaking them. My body shook with anger. Tears welled up in my eyes. I will never ever give up. “What should we do to report this to Ikeda sensei?” I chanted earnestly.

President Harada, Masaki Soka Gakkai administrator, and Aomori vice-president criticized us in the meetings, and when each of us pleaded them to take time for talking and hearing our story, they refused it. Even Hasegawa Soka Gakkai vice-administrator refused, who was appointed by Ikeda sensei as the contact person to Ikeda sensei. Even so, I can not help thinking that in order to report this to Ikeda sensei I had to ask leaders close to Ikeda sensei. Then I decided to visit Miyagi vice-president, a son of Ikeda sensei. I were neither sure if he would meet me nor talking with me and hearing my story. Nevertheless, there was no way but to keep going. Even if it causes more misunderstandings about me and us, the important thing, I thought, was to do what I can do then. Other than that, I could not think of the right way.

No.2 The Response of the Soka Gakkai Headquarter to the Soka Gakkai Memberes Who Did Not Sign the Written Pledge. (May 2008-December 2008)

The true seed of the vow will bloom into flower without fail. The important factor is your strong determination of “never give up” and the spirits of keeping pressing forward to win the fight.
(The guidance of Ikeda sensei)

To win is never to give up. The fighting sprits like flame more and more burning against a violent gale will open the way for the triumph.
(The guidance of Ikeda sensei)

The true nature of the headquarter of Soka Gakkai - our report has not reached Ikeda sensei. Never ever should we allow Soka Gakkai to be like that. More than that, knowing the truth of the headquarter of Soka Gakkai. we can’t never allow us to break our vow and give up,

Weak spirits created the current headquarter of Soka Gakkai.
We ourselves created it.
Therefore, we can never be defeated.
We can never ever be defeated.
For the brilliant future of Soka Gakkai.
you have to change ourselves.
Face up. It is you who can transform the current Soka Gakkai into the ideal one as Ikeda sensei describes.
For the justice of Soka Gakkai, the justice of the mentor and disciple.
We will raise our voices as long as we live.

On the spot of the notification of the result of the inquiry conducted by the audit committee (which is established with the purpose to deal with the problems happening within the community of Soka Gakkai not within the corporation), the five including three of us, denied signing up for the written pledge. Mr. Iwate, the central person of the committee, is close to President Harada. He worked on our bosses to persuade us to sign the pledge. However, actually, it is the problem which happened in a local community of Soka Gakkai, not the problem which happened within the corporation . So, it was not relevant to the colleagues of us. We were ready for any punishment, but it was heart-aching that our bosses, for who we were indebted, persuaded us to sign the written pledge. Mr. Akita was the one of the five who did not sign the written pledge. He used to be determined not to do it at first. However, with one after another persuading him, he gave in to sign after all. We ( Kodaira, Takigawa and Noguchi) had resisted oppression by the headquarter to sign the pledge, which became stronger and stronger.

On July 22 2008, at the meeting where all Soka Gakkai staff (employees) at headquarter attended except Ikeda sensei, President Harada warned every staff as follows.“These days, there are Soka Gakkai staff who have not followed the guidance of the central person of Soka Gakkai in a district, neither followed the advice from their bosses in their working place. Far from it, they have claimed their justice. Plus, they have disobeyed the rules of “adhering to the guidance of Soka Gakkai and maintaining the organizational order”. What they are doing is totally unacceptable as Soka Gakkai staff. To make matters worse, they have quoted the guidance of Ikeda sensei to make it work to their advantage and justify their movement. I will tell you they are just taking advantage of Ikeda sensei.”

After the meeting, Takigawa was stopped by his boss. He denounced Takigawa as follows; “President Harada was talking about you, the three.” The days after the meeting, Takigawa was called by his boss (common bosses of Takigawa) to come to a single room. In the room, there were not only his boss but also the leader of the local district of Soka Gakkai where Takigawa belonged. On the next day of the meeting, July 23rd, Takigawa had been persuaded to sign the written pledge since the morning. Six hours had passed with no lunch time given to Takigawa. Takigawa said to them “I can’t sign the written pledge, because I don’t think it was right. “ His boss replied “It doesn’t matter whether or not it is right. The problem is you do not sign the written pledge which President Harada imposed on you.” Takigawa said “if the audit committee heard our story and then judged, we could understand and would sign. However, the inquiry was far from it. Then, I asked for re-inquiry. I am sorry but I can not sign the pledge.” His boss told him “Anyway, if you do not sign by tomorrow, bring your resignation!”

Without chanting daimoku, we could not go to work. We wondered “Ikeda sensei would be glad if we signed up for the written pledge.” “I don’t think so, because no matter how much we tried to explain, our bosses insisted that the important thing is not the fact or the process of the problem, but whether or not we obey what the headquarter decided.”

The next day, July 24th, Takigawa was called to come when he had just started working. His boss said” “it is certain that we can’t keep you here any longer. It’s impossible to have you in Shinano-machi and even in Kanagawa.”The only way left is to work for Hokkaido Nihon Tosho.which is an affiliate of Soka Gakkai, whose job is mainly to deliver newspaper. Although we can’t fire you now, we can do to this extent (transfer) lawfully. It has already been decided that you can’t stay here.
Moreover, he added “ if you can’t follow what I am telling you, you should quit this job. Don’t say childish things.” “If you can’t follow what I and the president of this office are telling you, you must quit this job. We, too, are very strict.”

The same day, Kodaira, who worked in the same office as Takigawa, was also called by his boss. He told Kodaira “Sign the written pledge,or you should bring resignation and quit this job upon your decision. Their bosses kept persuading Takigawa and Kodaira. It was not something we could call “persuasion”. However, In the time of severer difficulties, Ikeda sansei’s messages or guidance appeared in Seikyo Newspaper, which were really encouraging and heart-warming.

“Life is all struggle. The righter lives you live, the more obstacles will confronts you, and you will have to fight continuously. Point is whether or not you can stick to your faith and carry on your missionary fight until the end. Here is a battle as a human.
(The guidance of Ikeda sensei)

Tears welled up in my eyes. “How happy I am” I said to myself “Sensei, sensei” again and again. “My heart is not strong enough. However, I am a disciple of Ikeda sensei. Then, I can’t be defeated.”

Mr. Fukushima was Komeito staff (an employee) and did not sign the written pledge. As they did to us, Mr. Fukushima’s boss continued to persuade him to sign. Tapping his shoulder, his boss called him to come to a single room one day and another. There, his boss told him “We were scolded by the Soka Gakkai” “We will make you sign the written pledge.” “If not, I will by force” In November 28 2008, His boss had persuaded Mr. Fukushima even for an hour and half. However, didn’t sign. Then, his boss took him to his parents’s home without appointment. His boss told his parents “I came here to do “Shakubuku” to ask you to persuade your son to sign the written pledge. Let’s do it together for your son.” It was new to his parents that even the president Harada knew this matter. His mother was shocked and screamed, and his mother became unable to breathe. Mr. Fukushima was looking at his mother. Then, his boss said “ I will do this until you sign.”In the end, he gave in to sign.
You can choose to sign. Of course, you can choose not to sign.

It should depend on our will whether or not we sign. However, What the audit committee gave us was only one choice- to sign the written pledge.

Finally, after two weeks, in December 15 2008, the Staff Disciplinary Committee (Syokuin Kiritsu Iinkai) was set in motion to make a decision on whether or not they would punish us as Soka Gakkai staff (employees).
The person who took the initiative was Aomori vice-president. He claimed what we had done would infringe Soka Gakkai staff rules.
As a result of their warning, we had to submit a statement about the reasons why we had not signed up for the written pledge. The chairman of the Staff Disciplinary Committee was Hasegawa vice-administrator (the current Soka Gakkai administrator), who was a contact person to Ikeda sensei.

We had already made up our mind. “We will do what we believe is right, and behave sincerely and devote ourselves whole-heartedly. Then, even if we would be punished, we will be willing to accept any punishment.”

No.1 The True Nature of the Headquarter of Soka Gakkai, Where Report Does Not Reach Ikeda Sensei. (June 2002-October 2012)

Now, there are Soka Gakkai members who struggle desperately and raise their voices to champion the spirits of “mentor and disciple”. The response of the headquarter of Soka Gakkai to the movement was as following:“We have not permitted the movement of Soka Gakkai members holding meetings against the Security Bills.”and “We feel extremely regrettable that they use the name of Soka Gakkai and the symbol of Soka Gakkai, the three colors.” We think, however, that it is ordinary Soka Gakkai members who fought with Ikeda sensei in heart that supported and made it possible that the current Komei lawmakers were to be elected.

Soka Gakkai members are raising their voices with courage. It is totally heartless to ignore them. It seemed that the spirits of Ikeda sensei was gone far away. It’s not true, I believe. Ikeda sensei is watching us, now, and also in the future. He is watching how we do justice, and the way we struggle, eternally. I will fight, fight to fulfill the vow with Ikeda sensei.

The most serious problem was that we could not reach Ikeda sensei (we were not be able to report the truth of the scandal to Ikeda sensei). In June 26 2002, Ikeda sensi provided all Soka Gakkai staff with guidance: “Please let me know if there is a corrupted staff.” Also he mentioned that now work in Soka Gakkai became mechanical and routine. Another guidance of his was “Female youth devision members should say critical opinions.” “Send me letters, which is based on truth. If I found the report something false, I don’t trust it.” In addition, in regard to corruptions of Soka Gakkai staff, he told us “If there was something wrong, please visit the vice-administrator, Mr. Hasegawa. Then, he will report the matter to me. I will look into the problem. However, if I found the report false, I have to punish you severely, because, otherwise, it is not fair.” Then, we saw Mr. Hasegawa on the stage, who was assigned the important task, rising to his feet and saying “Yes!” Ikeda sensei worried about its organizational management structure, where, the executives might hide important information or reports from him.Because of this, Ikeda sensei told every staff to report him if a scandal unfolded or a problem occurred.(In reality, as Ikeda sensei was anxious, the flaw of the organizational management structure came out when an executive in the headquarter caused a scandal and was dismissed owing to the relationship with a woman.) Then, Ikeda sensei created a post to report an internal problem or scandal to him. However, as Ikeda sensei warned us, reporting a scandal or internal problem to Mr. Hasegawa was something we could not do without giving our lives for it.
We came across a serious internal problem of Soka Gakkai, on which we could not turn blind eyes. Reporting to Ikeda sensei was dogged by sleepless internal struggle to make decision to report the matter to Mr. Hasegawa. We were almost overwhelmed by the pressure. Nevertheless, we thought that if we turned blind eyes on the issue, it meant that we broke the vow of disciples with Ikeda sensei. We chanted Daimoku earnestly and like endlessly. Then, we came to the decision to tell the truth to Mr. Hasegawa. We, with tremulous feet, visited Mr. Hasegawa. However, what he told us was“Don’t take advantage of Ikeda sensei” “What if somebody saw me and you talking?” “Now, I can have a chat like this with you because Mr. B vise-president and the president are not here. However, if they were here, I could not talk even like this.” He just tried to protect his position, and turned down the report. Giving up means we go for death. Then, we took actions to report the scandal of executives and the internal problem of Soka Gakkai to Ikeda sensei. However, the audit committee of Soka Gakkai regarded the movement of reporting to Ikeda sensei as the reasons to dismiss us.

The Contents of the Report to Ikeda Sensei Which We Had Attempted to Make.

What we attempted to report to Ikeda sensei was the true nature of the disciplinary inquiry which we had came to know, by the audit committee (Kansa Iinkai) of Soka Gakkai which the president Harada was in charge of.(The audit committee is supposed to deal with the problems happening within the community of Soka Gakkai not within the corporation of Soka Gakkai.)The inquiries took place in April 29 2008 (the day for inquiring) and May 22-24 2008(The days for the notification of the result of the inquiry.)

The committee inquired us about the core problem of Soka Gakkai which was revealed by the scandal of the youth executives in the community of our district. After the daily work, we worked with our computers until the midnight to make documents to submit to the audit committee. Then, they scheduled the day for the inquiry, and we thought the purpose of the inquiry is to hear our story based on the document we handed in. We expected that they listened to our story fairly without any bias and, we brought into the inquiry. They called us to come to the inquiry room one by one, and in my case, four executives, including a vice-president, took seats, facing to me. I was treated as if I were a criminal. Each inquiry began with our greetings. I squeezed out trembling voices. However, when I started to explain the issue in details, one of the executives interrupted and said” Here is not the place where we hear your story!” He added “We have just fired a central person who caused another scandal” Obviously, he threatened dismissal.
On the inquiry of another Soka Gakkai member, five enquirers, including even a vice president and a lawyer, faced to the Soka Gakkai member, and confirmed if he had connection with Ikeda sensei. As soon as they knew he did not, they accused him “It’s you that caused a problem, right?” He and we were shocked by the inquiry, which was conducted with bias and pre-determined conclusion.

On the day of the notification of the result of the disciplinary inquiry, Kodaira attempted to explain for their accurate understanding and right judgement, one of the inquirers said “We don’t hear any excuse.” “We are just asking if you have a will to sign. This is what the headquarter have concluded. “You don’t obey and sign, don’t you?” “That’s it. We judged that you don’t obey our conclusion””We understand” Also, they told us “Take it seriously” “We, the audit committee, have such authority. Understand?” “ If you deny our guidance, we have to impose sufficient punishment on you.” “ Get out of here”

To Takigawa they told “The notification of the result of inquiry means that it just depends on whether or not you accept the judgement we reached.” “To who you are complaining?” “what do you mean “please listen to our story”?” “Admit, in the first place!” “Here is not the place to hear your story” “We are just notifying you the result of the inquiry” Additionally, they said to Takigawa “If you keep going, you will make a faction and rebel against Soka Gakkai.”Takigawa answered “We will never do!” They told “You are rebelling right now” “We aren’t rebelling!” told Takigawa. “Understand. Then, just sign the written pledge.” Lastly, they concluded “If you don’t accept our guidance, you can’t be the members of Soka Gakkai, also. Considering it, then make up your last decision.”

The judgement of the audit committee was that we must sign and submit the letter of a written pledge which was approved by the president and other executives. The content of the letter of a written pledge was we must not bring up the problem again. We thought that the problem would be hidden forever, and it meant we would betray Ikeda sensei. Of course, we had an internal struggle to reach the decision not to obey the judgement of the official organization which the headquarter of Soka Gakkai belong to. Also, we knew if we did not sign, we would be punished or excommunicated from Soka Gakkai. Only anxieties we had.
It was toughest decision for each of us to make, and it required us for the strong determination to give our lives for our belief. Honestly, it was easy for us to sign. We felt like being released from the overwhelming pressure and being easy. However, the more we chant, the stronger our determination became not to turn a blind eye on the true nature of the inquiry: They slandered and threatened us severe disciplines and excommunication from Soka Gakkai, and forced us to sign the written pledge, with the core problem unresolved.

The core problem which the headquarter of Soka Gakkai had to solve has not been resolved yet, and has effects on our and the members’local districts as well. The inquiry was just superficial and I can say it took place with pre-determined judgement: They attempted to solve the problem merely by forcing us to sign and submit the written pledge of us” Signing up the written pledge means “ escape” from the problem we had encountered.

There is a Japanese saying "Seidaku Awase Nomu". (Sei means "good or holly" and daku means "evill or poison". Awase means "both". Nomu means "drink") The meaning of this saying is that we should be tolerant enough to accept (drink) both good and evil"
However, Ikeda sensei told us that this saying is not applicable in this faith we practice. We must not accept evil like injustice or corruption. If we do, our faith will be corrupted. (The guidance of Ikeda sensei)

Even though we were excommunicated from Soka Gakkai, fooled, and laughed at, we didn’t want to lie to ourselves and to Ikeda sensei. With inner struggle, we made up our mind not to sign the written pledge no matter how severe punishment we might receive.

There were 10 members who did not sign the written pledge on the spot of the notification.
After that, by the oppression to our community of the Soka Gakkai district, our family, and our working place, we were forced and signed the written pledge one by one.
